W.A.B.A. Rules

1) The W.A.B.A. Award is issued by the A.R.I.-Diamond DX Club and is available to either licensed amateurs and SWLs. 

2) The minimun requirement for obtaining the award is to have 10 different Antarctic bases confirmed representing at least 5 Countries having bases there. 

3) The contacts can be made on all the amateur radio bands, from 10 to 160 metres, and in the SSB, CW and RTTY modes. Single mode and/or single band certificates are not issued. 

4) There is no limit on signal reports received on SSB, CW and RTTY. 

5) All contacts with Antarctic stations must have taken place since January 1 st. 1961 (the year of the "Antarctic Treaty"). The Antarctic territory starts from 60 degrees South latitude. 

6) The W.A.B.A. is issued to licensed amateurs and SWLs who shall submit to the Diamond DX Club, c/o I8YRK, Gennaro Casaburi, Via 31 Maggio 11, I-80027 Frattamaggiore – NA, Italy the following: a) a dated and signed letter stating that the applicant made all the contacts in accordance with the terms of his/her licence and a list of contacts made including callsign of the station worked, date, UTC, frequency, mode, RS(T), name of Antarctic Base; b) the QSL cards for all of the the contacts listed. It is not necessary for Diamond DX Club to send the QSLs, but they must be in their possession for possible checking. The QSLs will be returned to the applicant via the bureau unless return postage is enclosed with the application. c) The award fee is 15 € or USD 15. d) The endorsements fee is Euro 2 or USD 2 each. 

7) The possessors of the W.A.B.A. can use this title on their own QSL cards and in correspondence. 

8) The A.R.I. journal "Radio Rivista" will publish twice a year list (with callsigns and names) of the new W.A.B.A. awards issued and updated listings of the participants. 

9) The W.A.B.A. HONOUR ROLL is free for those who (a) have 25 different Antarctic bases confirmed representing at least 15 Countries having bases there and (b) have got all the endorsements. 

10) The W.A.B.A. TOP HONOUR ROLL is free for those who (a) have 50 different Antarctic bases confirmed representing at least 20 Countries having bases there and (b) have got all the endorsements.

 11) The W.A.B.A., the HONOR ROLL and the TOP HONOR ROLL awards are in the form of personalized silk screened aluminium colour plates (200x240 mm) showing the Antarctic continent. 

12) The endorsements are in the form of an adhesive colour flag of the Countries having a Base, and are for contacting the 50% or at least 3 of the active Antarctic bases belonging to that Country, i.e. the bases with a Reference Number in the W.A.B.A. Directory. 

13) Copy of " ANTARCTIC BASES Directory of W.A.B.A. and W.A.S.A." is available on the Diamond DX Club’s WEB pages at http://www.ddxc.org 

14) Amateur radio operators who are active or were active from an Antarctic base can apply for the W.A.B.A. award without enclosing The cards and the list of QSOs. 

15) Contacts with special call IR1ANT, IN0G, IY0A and IY8UN are also valid for the award. These 4 stations can be used once as “wild card”, for getting either the award or an endorsement flag. 

16) Those who have information about Antarctic Stations not listed in the Directory, are invited to get in touch with the Diamond DX Club, c/o I8YRK, Gennaro Casaburi, Via 31 Maggio 11, I-80027 Frattamaggiore – NA, Italy; their call will be mentioned on the first page of the Directory as “contributor”. 

17) There is no limit for updates. 

18) The checkpoint authorized to verify the QSL cards are the following:
