The ZS6BKW wire antenna, a variant of the G5RV, utilizes a specific 13m (42.6 ft) length of 450-ohm window line as its matching section, feeding a 28.5m (93.5 ft) flat-top element. This design aims for lower SWR on 40m, 20m, 17m, 12m, and 10m compared to a standard G5RV, often achieving SWR values below 1.5:1 on these bands without an antenna tuner. The feedpoint impedance transformation provided by the window line allows for direct connection to 50-ohm coax on multiple bands. F4FHH's experience involved constructing the ZS6BKW and evaluating its performance against an _OCF dipole_ (Off-Center Fed) on various HF frequencies. The article includes observations on SWR readings and operational effectiveness, highlighting the ZS6BKW's suitability for multi-band operation. The antenna's overall length, including the flat-top and window line, is approximately **41.5 meters** (136 feet), making it a significant wire antenna for fixed station use. Comparative analysis with the OCF dipole provided practical insights into the ZS6BKW's advantages and limitations, particularly concerning bandwidth and tuner requirements.

GW4ALG's _136 kHz Pages_ document the evolution of vertical antennas for the 2200m band, starting with a prototype mounted on a house wall. This initial design, despite achieving the first **395 km** GM-GW QSO, suffered from significant insulation breakdown, high RF losses due to proximity to the house, and difficult tuning adjustments. The author details the challenges of maintaining resonance and matching with a variometer in the loft, noting that adding three earth spikes offered no measurable improvement over a simple water tap connection. The subsequent experimental 12m vertical, relocated away from the house, significantly reduced dielectric losses and proved far more effective. This antenna enabled GW4ALG to set a world DX record on 136 kHz with a **1916 km** QSO to OH1TN, and an intra-UK record of **703 km** to GM3YXM/P. The resource further explores the use of helium-filled balloons to extend the vertical radiator, achieving heights up to 27m, typically 20m, for enhanced low-band performance. Practical advice on balloon types, inflation, and critical insulation between the wire and balloon is provided, emphasizing safety and avoiding arcing.

The **136kHz Vertical Antenna** at G3YMC employs a Butternut HF2V structure, standing 10m tall. It integrates a 6.5mH loading coil to achieve resonance, with a matching transformer for impedance adjustment. The antenna's configuration includes top loading via a 12m horizontal wire, enhancing capacitive impedance. Initial measurements indicated a high impedance of around 300 ohms, necessitating a transformer for a 50-ohm match. Despite challenges with ground losses, the vertical antenna has shown improved performance in specific directions, filling nulls present in the previous loop antenna setup. The tuning remains broad, with variations due to environmental factors affecting the matching. Ongoing adjustments and comparisons with the loop antenna will continue to refine its effectiveness.

The BikeLoop antenna project details the construction of a double magnetic loop antenna optimized for VLF frequencies, specifically around 136 kHz. This innovative design incorporates two orthogonal loops, which significantly enhance reception capabilities. Key construction hints include utilizing lightweight bicycle rims for the antenna structure, making it easy to transport and set up in various locations. The document provides valuable mathematical and electrical insights into the antenna's performance, alongside practical reception tests conducted in the Italian Alps, showcasing its effectiveness in capturing various VLF signals, including Sferics and FSK transmissions. Proper setup is crucial for optimal performance. The project emphasizes the importance of grounding and avoiding interference from nearby electrical sources. The reception tests revealed the antenna's ability to capture a range of signals, demonstrating its practical application for enthusiasts interested in VLF reception and antenna experimentation. Overall, the BikeLoop serves as an excellent starting point for those looking to explore the world of VLF frequencies and enhance their antenna-building skills.

DF0WD/DL4YHF's Longwave Overview details amateur radio operations on the 135.7 to 137.8 kHz segment in Germany. The author outlines the "inofficial" European band plan, specifying segments for QRSS, TX tests, beacons, conventional CW, and data modes. Early LF activities at DF0WD began with a 20-watt CW transmitter, later upgraded to a homemade linear transverter capable of 100 watts, driven by an Icom IC706 on 10.137 MHz. The station's antenna system includes a 200-meter wire, approximately 10 meters above ground, supported by football field light-masts. Despite its length, the antenna's efficiency is noted as very low due to the immense wavelength of about 2.2 km. The author's experience highlights the significant challenge of achieving effective radiated power (EIRP) on LF, estimating DF0WD's EIRP at around 80 milliwatts based on field strength measurements from PA0SE. DF0WD/DL4YHF has successfully worked numerous countries on 136 kHz CW, including DL, F, G, GI, GM, GU, GW, HB9, HB0, LX, OE, OH, OK, OM, ON, OZ, PA, and SM. The author also mentions ongoing efforts to log contacts with CT, EI, LA/LG, and to complete a two-way QSO with Italy, demonstrating persistent activity on this challenging band.

The Beverage on Ground (BOG) antenna offers ham radio operators a compact alternative to traditional Beverage antennas, requiring less space and fewer support structures. This implementation, optimized for 1.8-7 MHz bands, describes ideal parameters: lengths of 60-90 meters, height of 2-10 cm above ground, and specific load resistances based on configuration. The article details experimental methods for determining optimal load resistance and presents matching systems to convert BOG impedance to 50 ohms. While less effective than classic 200-300 meter Beverages, the BOG provides directional reception in limited space, though performance varies with ground conditions and weather changes.

Demonstrates the construction of an active loop converter specifically designed for the Low Frequency (LF) bands, addressing common localized noise interference in LF reception. The design integrates a sharply tuned circuit and a tuned loop antenna, utilizing the loop as the sole tuned inductive element. By applying positive feedback, the converter significantly increases the loop's effective Q, achieving factors between 1000 and 2000, which sharpens tuning and reduces noise. The circuit employs an _NE602_ mixer stage, feeding its output to an HF receiver, with a crystal-locked local oscillator at 4 MHz. A 20-turn, 0.8-meter square loop antenna with 500 uH inductance is detailed, connected via 2 meters of figure 8 flex cable. The converter offers three selectable frequency bands: 195-490 kHz, 150-220 kHz (including the New Zealand amateur band), and 128-160 kHz (covering the European amateur band). Performance measurements indicate an effective 3dB bandwidth of approximately 100 to 200 hertz at 200 kHz. The article provides insights into component selection, including an _LF353_ op-amp and a trifilar wound transformer on a ferrite core. Sensitivity figures are presented, showing 7.5 uV of converted output per 1 uV/meter signal strength into a 50-ohm load, or 37.5 uV into an _FRG7_ receiver, highlighting its capability to extract weak signals from noise.
