Antennas : End-Fed : End Fed Half Wave Antenna
  • Comparing Mobile whip versus EF HW Vertical - PH0NO conducted field tests comparing a mobile antenna (DX-UHV) to an end-fed half-wave wire. Results on 20m showed the end-fed wire outperforming the mobile antenna, with a significant difference in signal strength. On 40m, the end-fed wire surpassed the mobile antenna in spots and reach. While the mobile antenna is more practical, the end-fed wire offers superior performance. Further testing is planned.

Antennas : J-Pole
  • Improving Gain of the Super J-Pole Antenna - The collinear J-Pole, often known as the Super-J, does improve the behavior over a regular J-Pole. there is an advantage when vertically combining 1/2 radiating sections to have a bit of separation between the half-wave end points. Get 0.8 dB more gain out of the trusty Super-J by replacing the traditional phasing stub with a long coil.

Antennas : Multiband
  • Space-Efficient Excellence: Inverted L Multi-Band HF Antenna - Discovering a solution for limited space, the inverted L HF antenna emerges as a stellar performer. Half the size of a dipole, it ensures optimal installation in restricted areas, maintaining superb transmission (TX) and reception (RX) characteristics. Spectrum Communications' multi-band version, featuring traps, proves even more space-friendly without compromising performance. A fiberglass pole offers sturdy support, while proper grounding, an RF choke, and occasional tuning contribute to a high-performing and reliable antenna system.

Operating Aids : History
  • Evolution of Car Radios: From Marconi to Motorola - his historical account traces the development of car radios from Marconi's mobile wireless telegraph station on a steam engine vehicle in 1901 to Motorola's iconic car radio models in the 1930s. It highlights key milestones such as Alfred Grebe's radio-telephone experiments on Long Island and the introduction of Marconi-Phone 8 radios by the Daimler Company in England. The narrative explores technological advancements, including the transition from TRF to Super-Heterodyne circuitry and the integration of push-button controls. The evolution from vacuum tubes to transistors and compact discs is also documented, showcasing the continuous innovation in automotive entertainment systems.
