What is amateur radio, also known as "Ham Radio"

Amateur radio, also called "ham radio", is a hobby enjoyed by many people throughout the world.
Those who use Ham Radio, are called ham radio operators, and are identified by unique international call signs, assigned by local governaments.
To become an amateur radio operator, hams, need to obtain a licence, that usually is assigned at the end of special courses and examinations. Ham radio operators, use 2-way radio transceivers, to connect each others, and make use of special antennas. Main goal of this hobby is public service, recreational, and self-improvement.
