SteppIR Communication Systems has officially announced that it will cease production of its consumer antennas and accessories by August 31, 2025. The decision, attributed to “several emerging factors,” marks a significant shift for the company that has been at the forefront of amateur radio antenna innovation for over two decades.

Orders for consumer antennas and spare parts will be accepted and fulfilled until August 31, 2025. After that date, only spare parts will be sold, while supplies last. Importantly, SteppIR confirmed that warranty and technical support services will remain unchanged.

Founded in 2001 by Mike Mertel K7IR, Jim Thomas K7IRF, and John Mertel WA7IR, SteppIR was born from the desire to build a frequency-agile Yagi antenna. Despite early setbacks, the company made a breakthrough in time for the 2001 Dayton Hamvention, where their innovative 3-element Yagi drew considerable attention.

Since then, SteppIR has become a household name among radio amateurs worldwide, known for its patented adjustable-element antennas capable of optimal performance across HF bands. The product range expanded over the years to include verticals, portables, and an array of accessories and control systems.

In 2017, John Mertel returned to the company and took over leadership, with founder Mike Mertel continuing to support the company in a technical advisory role.

This announcement marks the end of an era for thousands of hams who relied on SteppIR for high-performance antenna solutions. While production is winding down, the company has pledged ongoing product support, ensuring current customers can continue using their equipment with confidence.
