JOTA: Jamboree on the Air
Description
JOTA, or Jamboree on the Air, is an annual Scouting event held on the third full weekend of October, coinciding with Jamboree on the Internet (JOTI). This event connects Scouts globally using amateur radio. Participants exchange Scouting experiences and ideas, with short-wave radio signals enabling communication worldwide. The event provides an educational opportunity for Scouts to learn about wireless radio techniques and electronics. Participation requires the support of at least one licensed amateur radio operator or a local amateur radio club. National amateur radio organizations can assist in finding local operators. Licensed operators, who have passed technical examinations, may host Scouts at their stations, bring equipment to Scout headquarters, or set up stations in unusual locations. In some countries, Scouts may speak over the air, while in others, special permission is needed or the licensed operator makes contacts on their behalf. Operators should be briefed on Scouting to facilitate informative exchanges.
