Outlines the essential steps for successfully activating a **Summits on the Air (SOTA)** peak, providing a structured approach for amateur radio operators participating in this popular award program. It details crucial pre-activation planning, including navigating the SOTA website, setting up a SOTA Data account, and consulting the **Association Reference Manual (ARM)** for specific regional rules and peak information. The guide also covers using mapping resources like adventureradio.de and lists ofjohn.com to identify suitable summits and check access conditions. The document emphasizes safety during the activation, advising operators to monitor weather, carry rain gear, and plan ample time for the ascent and descent. It specifies the **4-QSO minimum** requirement within the Activation Zone and recommends calling "CQ SOTA" on traditional QRP or VHF calling frequencies. The guide also suggests using local 2m FM repeaters for safety communications and spotting, while clarifying that repeater QSOs do not count for SOTA points. Post-activation activities include submitting logs to sotadata.org.uk, uploading trip reports to share experiences with future activators, and promoting SOTA participation on various reflectors. The guide highlights the program's appeal through its awards system for both activators and chasers, encouraging new participants in North America.

Amateur Television (ATV) is a ham radio technology that transmits and receives broadcast-quality video and audio. It utilizes existing standards for commercial television and can be used for various purposes including experimentation, entertainment, and public service events. ATV signals can be relayed over long distances using repeaters and are capable of transmitting live video from locations like the International Space Station. The article explores how to get started with ATV, highlighting its ease of use and suitability for beginners in ham radio. The future of ATV appears promising with advancements in digital and narrowband transmission techniques.

Connecting to the global *EchoLink* network via a web browser simplifies internet linking for licensed amateur radio operators. This web application provides a direct interface, eliminating the need for client software installation. Users can log in with their validated callsign and password to access the system, facilitating contacts with other stations, repeaters, and conferences worldwide, much like traditional VoIP applications but tailored for amateur radio. The interface offers essential controls for managing connections, including selecting specific stations or conferences from a dropdown list, initiating a connection, and disconnecting. Features such as a 'Call CQ' button allow users to signal their availability for a contact, while options for low bandwidth operation and accepting incoming connections optimize performance and accessibility. Audio device selection ensures proper microphone and speaker integration with the web client. Validation of an amateur radio license is a prerequisite for full access, ensuring that only authorized operators utilize the network. The system prompts unvalidated users to provide an email address and password to begin the validation process, which typically involves submitting proof of license. This free service extends the reach of amateur radio communications globally, bridging geographical distances through internet connectivity.

This online project documentation details the construction of a hands-free microphone interface unit designed for _mobile_ amateur radio operation. The curriculum covers the integration of electret microphone elements with amateur radio transceivers, specifically addressing **VHF** band communication. It outlines the circuitry for a switch box that provides an interface between various radio models and microphone types. The guide specifies the inclusion of a **1750 Hz** tone-burst generator for accessing amateur radio repeaters, an operational protocol for many VHF systems. Design considerations include the reduction of ambient vehicle noise through an adjustable audio input level control. The project provides schematics and wiring diagrams for connecting the interface unit to specific amateur radio transceivers, including the Yaesu FT-817. It addresses the selection and adaptation of readily available electret microphone and earpiece assemblies, initially sourced from mobile phone accessories, and later from dedicated headset units. The design incorporates a control mechanism for radio functions, enabling hands-free operation during _mobile_ excursions. Circuit details cover power supply considerations for the electret microphone and signal routing for both transmit audio and received audio monitoring. The documentation specifies component selection for the switch box, ensuring compatibility with common amateur radio microphone input impedances and output levels. This includes considerations for PTT line switching and audio path isolation. Allstar Linked Repeaters On The Air (ALROTA) is a community-focused platform aimed at strengthening connections within the amateur radio world. It offers a range of features, such as personalized connection schedules, net discovery tools, and a dedicated Radio Check Hub, all designed to improve the radio experience. Additionally, ALROTA supports emergency communication services and provides training opportunities for amateur radio

Over 200 distinct 2-meter band amateur radio repeaters are cataloged for Australia, providing essential operational data for VHF communication. Each entry specifies the repeater's output frequency, often including the input tone (e.g., **91.5 Hz** or **123.0 Hz** CTCSS) and the repeater's callsign (e.g., _VK2RSC_, _VK3RHF_). Locations are precisely noted, frequently referencing specific towns, mountains, or geographical features such as "Kinglake, Kangaroo Ground" or "Adaminaby, Mars Hill." The resource also indicates various digital modes and linking capabilities where applicable, such as "FMEchoLinkFusionWIRES-X" or "DMR," alongside standard FM operation. This detailed listing facilitates local and regional VHF communication, enabling hams to program their transceivers accurately for repeater access. The data is presented in a clear, tabular format, making it straightforward to identify repeaters by frequency and location.

The PAPA System is a member-supported amateur radio network in Southern California with inter-linked FM, D-STAR, DMR, and P25 repeaters. It provides extensive coverage from Mexico to north of Santa Barbara and from the Arizona border to the Pacific Ocean. Known for its reliability and motto "no call goes unanswered," the network supports casual conversations and emergency operations. Members enjoy using the system, attending events, and building friendships. Monthly meetings in Los Angeles, Orange County, and San Diego feature technology presentations, license testing, and door prizes.

HAMgpt offers a personalized amateur radio experience, leveraging AI to provide real-time operational guidance. It integrates live propagation data, current band conditions, and operator-specific context, including callsign, QTH, license class, and station equipment, to deliver relevant answers. The system can identify open HF, VHF, and UHF bands, suggest workable DXpeditions and POTA/SOTA activations, and provide accurate repeater offsets and CTCSS/DCS tones for local repeaters. Unlike general-purpose chatbots, HAMgpt avoids fabricating frequencies or license privileges, instead relying on actual data for its responses. It supports antenna design calculations for various types like Yagi, dipole, vertical, and magnetic loop antennas, offering to-scale dimensions. The platform also assists with license exam preparation and provides satellite pass predictions tailored to the user's location. It supports multiple countries, including the United States (FCC Technician, General, Extra), Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, Japan, and Argentina, incorporating their specific band plans and power limits.

For amateur radio operators seeking resilient, off-grid communication, the _MeshCom_ firmware provides a robust solution for text-based messaging over a mesh network. Utilizing LoRa modulation and the APRS protocol, this firmware is designed for low-energy consumption and cost-effective hardware, primarily operating in the 70cm band. Nodes, identified by amateur radio callsigns, can send short text messages to all participants or directly to specific callsigns, functioning as repeaters to extend network reach. The system supports automatic status and position messages, with optional sensor data for WX-Data and Telemetry. MeshCom nodes can be configured as gateways to HAMNET or the internet, enhancing connectivity options. The project emphasizes a self-building and self-healing mesh network architecture, crucial for emergency communication scenarios. Operating frequencies include **433.175 MHz** (EU, USA, Africa), 439.9125 MHz (UK), and 433.925 MHz (Norway). The firmware is compatible with hardware platforms such as ESP32/LoRa modules, RAK-WISBLOCK, and ESP32-DEV4/E22-LoRa, offering a flexible deployment for various amateur radio applications.
