This article offers insights on building Beverage antennas for optimal reception. Key takeaways include using strong wire (copperweld or electric fence), proper termination, and a good grounding system (multiple copper rods). The author recommends maximizing antenna length and orienting it towards desired stations. For best results, utilize an antenna tuner and experiment with termination resistors.

Two Wire Beverage by Jeff Parke, describes a two-wire Beverage antenna design for improved reception with switchable direction (forward/backward) and lower noise level. It includes details on building the antenna, matching transformers, and a control box for selecting direction and connecting to the receiver.

So you want to build a Beverage Antenna. This article offers insights on building a two-wire Beverage antenna for better reception. Key points include using long wire (at least a wavelength, ideally two), keeping it straight and away from vertical conductors, and sloping ends for noise reduction. The author recommends copper clad wire and mentions transformer design considerations for later discussion.

When we think of Beverage antennas, we automatically think of several acres of land and lots of wire!

How do two-wire reversible direction Beverages work, an excellent document that explains fundamentals of beverage antennas. This article details the design and performance of a reversible beverage antenna. Leveraging orthogonality between common mode and differential mode currents on a 2-wire line, this antenna facilitates independent reception from both ends. While common mode signals arrive and are summed on a transformer's secondary for common mode reception, differential mode signals induce anti-phase currents, providing individual reception. Various measurements explore impedance, transmission loss, and F/B ratio, highlighting the antenna's effectiveness and areas for improvement. Notably, increasing the antenna's height significantly improved performance.

This simple beverage ntenna is easy to make, easy to setup, and it offers great RX performance.

Making the Short dual wire Beverage better by Jeff Smith VE1ZAC

Examines various low-band receiving antennas, including the Beverage, Pennant, Flag, and Quad, specifically for deployment in noisy city environments. The resource provides a semi-scientific analysis of common receiving antenna types, focusing on their performance characteristics and practical considerations for urban settings. It details construction parameters for each antenna, such as the use of 9:1 baluns and 300-500 Ohm terminating resistors, and discusses the necessity of preamplifiers for certain configurations. Specific deployment advice includes avoiding radial fields to minimize noise pickup and methods for temporary wire antenna installations. The document provides antenna dimensions, noting a full-size Quad requires 540 feet of wire. Performance observations highlight a Quad variant used by N0XA (AB0X) that achieved 160M CQ WW records and facilitated over 120 JA contacts without a preamp.

An article about the Beverage antennas, super long wire receiving antennas thar are unidirectional and have a very low noise that makes this antenna excellent for low band dxing. By Thomas R. Sundstrom W2XQ, 73, June 1981, 73 Magazine

This page provides information about building a Beverage antenna for hams. The article discusses using a 60m wire on the ground to create an effective antenna for amateur radio operators. Learn how to set up and optimize this type of antenna for better reception and communication. This describes a low-noise receiving Beverage antenna setup for low bands, using a N30 cup core transformer for 1:4 impedance matching (likely 50:200 Ohm), RG-58 feedline with heavy common-mode choking, and conduit for wire burial.

WB5NHL describes setting up a 160-meter antenna on a small suburban lot, where standard options like Beverage antennas and 1/4 wavelength verticals require extensive space and ground systems. Instead, Guy Olinger's Folded Counterpoise (FCP) provides a solution. The FCP minimizes ground losses by using a folded wire design, allowing effective antenna placement in limited space. The FCP, fed with an isolation transformer, enabled WB5NHL's first 160-meter antenna installation, offering improved performance despite space constraints.

Details the construction and performance of a phase-controlled receiving array, specifically a **MicroSWA** variant, optimized for QRP low band fox hunting on 40M and 80M. The resource documents the author's iterative design process, addressing significant regional noise challenges encountered during 0100-0230 UTC fox hunt periods. Initial experiments involved a director wire on a 40M vertical, yielding limited improvement, prompting a shift towards advanced null-steering techniques. The project leverages concepts from Victor Misek’s "The Beverage Antenna Handbook" and Dallas Lankford’s extensive work on phased receiving antennas for urban lots. A key modification involved integrating a new passive phase control box and a push-pull **Norton common base preamp** using 2N5109 transistors, designed for high third-order intercept performance to maintain weak signal integrity amidst strong adjacent signals. The system incorporates Faraday-shielded transformers with RG174 primaries on -75 ferrite cores, housed in ABS plastic pipe. Performance tests confirmed the MicroSWA's ability to produce deep, steerable nulls, achieving approximately 30 dB noise reduction on 160M, 80M, and 40M. This enabled detection of QRP signals undetectable on conventional transmit antennas. The final unit includes front panel controls, a 10-11 dB preamp, and a robust power conditioner, demonstrating effective noise mitigation for challenging low band QRP operations.

This article explores Beverage antennas, a type used for low-frequency radio reception. Despite the mystique, they are relatively simple wire antennas placed near the ground. Their key benefit is improved signal-to-noise ratio by rejecting unwanted signals. While lengthier antennas offer better reception, even shorter versions (around 200 feet) can improve DX reception compared to traditional antennas.

This FAQ covers building and buying transformers for loop-on-ground and Beverage antennas. Building one uses ferrite cores and thin wire. Buying is an option, with the DX Engineering BFS-1 being recommended. These transformers isolate the antenna from the cable to prevent unwanted signal pickup.

The author reviews common lightning protection circuits and discusses their components. They then detail their design based on existing methods, highlighting choices for components and reasoning behind them. Finally, the author presents the completed design and its implementation on their Beverage antennas.
