An Attic Coaxial-Cable trap dipole for 10, 15, 20, 30, 40, and 80 meters

DJ9RB details several antenna projects, including loaded dipoles and verticals specifically for the 160m, 80m, and 40m amateur radio bands. Featured designs include a 160m loaded dipole with end capacitance, a 160m loaded L-antenna, and a 160m kite-supported vertical. For 80m, the resource describes a short broadband dipole (80BBDP), an 8m high top-loaded vertical (TLV80) with elevated radials, and a shielded loop for 3.5 MHz. For the 40m band, a 7m high top-loaded vertical (TLV40) and a 6m high portable top-loaded GP (TLV40mesh) are presented, both optimized for 7 MHz. Additional dipole designs cover 40m, 30m, 20m, 17m, and 6m bands, utilizing coaxial cable traps. The page also mentions specific vertical antenna variants like the TLV20 (GP14MHz) with two radials and the TLV30HWL-10MHz, a loaded half-wavelength vertical. The content includes information on high-power homemade components, such as a 3.5 MHz AM transmitter from 1964 and a 14 MHz portable transceiver from 1977. It also touches upon measurement instruments, BNC connector assembly, and QTH details from DJ9RB's operations, including H44/DJ9RB from the Solomon Islands.

The G3TPW CobWebb antenna design provides a compact, horizontally polarized, omni-directional solution for 20m, 17m, 15m, 12m, and 10m bands. This antenna utilizes five full-size half-wave dipoles, each bent into a square configuration to achieve omni-directional radiation without the nulls typically found in straight dipoles. The design incorporates a single 50-ohm coaxial feedline with an integrated air-core choke balun, minimizing feeder radiation and reducing EMC issues. Construction details include using PVC-covered multi-stranded copper twin cable for elements, supported by a fiberglass cross. The document specifies tapping points for impedance matching to 50 ohms on all five bands, ensuring high radiation efficiency without lossy traps or loading coils. Physical dimensions are compact, with 2.6-meter (8.5 feet) sides and a total weight of 6 kg (14 lbs), making it suitable for mounting on a 20-foot aluminum scaffold pole. Detailed instructions for assembling the junction box, including terminal strip wiring and the coaxial choke balun, are provided with photographs and diagrams. The design emphasizes a confined electric field to reduce coupling to nearby conductors, which helps mitigate TVI and makes the antenna less sensitive to mounting height or ground conductivity.

This page describes the design and construction materials W8WWV used to build a coaxial cable trap. A coaxial cable trap is a parallel resonant circuit that is usually inserted in an antenna element to enable multiband operation.

This improved multiband trap dipole introduces a new trap design and a change in trap location. The antenna features double-coaxial-cable-wound traps having lower reactance and a higher quality factor (Q) than earlier coax-cable traps by W8NX

A 37.6-meter Morgain antenna design provides dual-band operation on 80 and 160 meters without traps. The antenna uses 1.5 mm² stranded copper wire with vinyl insulation, commonly found as domestic electrical wire. Tuning involves adjusting lateral jumper wires for the 80-meter band, with initial positions 30 cm from the arm ends, yielding 3635–3715 kHz resonance with SWR below 1.5:1. For 160 meters, a straight wire length of 18.80 meters per arm is critical, achieving 1840–1850 kHz resonance with SWR below 1.1:1. The Morgain antenna exhibits a 50-ohm feed-point impedance, allowing direct connection of 50-ohm coaxial cable like RG-8X, which handles approximately 500 watts. Spacers and the central plate are constructed from 1 mm thick green fiberglass laminate, with spacers measuring 11 cm and installed every 1.90 meters. The central plate is 11 × 11 cm, designed to secure the coaxial cable mechanically. End supports utilize 3–6 mm thick bakelite terminal spacers, tensioned with nylon ropes.

A trap on the coaxial cable, also known as choke, helps to eliminate the sneaking of the reflected RF- energy to the shack. The trap can be made from the coaxial cable that feeds the antenna

Constructing a dual-band antenna for 40 and 20 meters often involves compromises in size or complexity. This resource presents a compact _open sleeve dipole_ design that addresses these challenges by using 450-ohm ladder line and folded elements to achieve a total length of approximately **17.17 meters**, significantly shorter than a full-size 40-meter dipole. The design leverages electromagnetic coupling, where a primary radiator handles the 40-meter band, and a second conductor resonates on 20 meters without direct electrical connection. This configuration eliminates the need for traditional traps, loading coils, or switching components, simplifying construction and reducing potential loss points. The antenna is fed with RG-58C/U coaxial cable, and a common-mode choke is recommended at the feed point to suppress sheath currents, ensuring a cleaner radiation pattern and minimizing RF in the shack. The design is well-suited for portable operations, field deployments, temporary installations, and restricted urban environments where space is a premium, offering solid performance on both HF bands.

A document that will guide you on Coaxial-Cable trap optimization process to gain on global antenna performance and on increasing effective bandwidth.

A coaxial cable trap is a fundamental component in multiband antenna design, enabling a single radiator to resonate efficiently on multiple frequencies by electrically shortening or lengthening the antenna element. This project focuses on constructing such a trap for a vertical antenna operating on the 10 MHz (30m) and 14 MHz (20m) amateur bands, providing practical insights into its fabrication and integration. The article outlines the specific dimensions and winding techniques for the coaxial trap, emphasizing the use of readily available materials. It details the physical construction of the vertical element, including the mast and radiating sections, to achieve optimal performance across both target bands. The author shares personal experiences with similar trap designs, noting their effectiveness in previous horizontal dipole configurations. Key construction steps are illustrated with _original photos_, showing the assembly of the trap and its incorporation into the overall antenna structure. The design aims for a compact footprint, making it suitable for limited space installations while still delivering effective DX capabilities on the **30-meter** and **20-meter** bands.

EA4EOZ details the construction and testing of 50 MHz traps, a critical component for multiband antenna designs. The project addresses the challenge of sourcing high-voltage capacitors suitable for trap applications, exploring alternatives to expensive doorknob capacitors. The author successfully fabricated a capacitor using 1.6mm double-sided FR-4 PCB material, achieving a capacitance density of **2.6 pF/cm2**. Utilizing the _VE6YP calculator_, specific L and C values of 30 pF and 0.31 uH were determined for a 2cm diameter coil. Both the FR-4 PCB trap and a coaxial cable trap, constructed from _RG-58_, were built and tuned to approximately 50 MHz using a spectrum analyzer. The coaxial cable trap demonstrated superior performance, exhibiting a notch nearly **20dB deeper** than the FR-4 version. This practical comparison provides insights into trap construction for experimental antennas, with the coaxial cable trap selected for an antenna project intended for operation at up to 100 watts.
