Presents a construction project for a linear-loaded 40-meter rotatable dipole, detailing the design evolution from mid-element coils to 300-ohm twinlead loading. It covers material selection, including repurposed fishing poles and EMT conduit, and outlines the assembly process for the antenna elements and mounting plate. The resource provides specific measurements for element lengths and linear loading sections, along with SWR plots demonstrating the antenna's resonance at 7.035 MHz with a 1.1:1 SWR, and bandwidth up to 7.120 MHz below 2:1 SWR. The article documents the antenna's performance during various RTTY and CW contests, including the SARTG RTTY and SCC RTTY contests in August 2006, and the ARRL DX CW and CQWW WPX RTTY contests in February 2007. It reports successful operation at 500-1000W, noting improved performance after replacing a faulty coax cable. Specific DX contacts from British Columbia, including stations in Europe and South Africa, are listed, illustrating the antenna's capability despite its shortened length and relatively low height of 55 feet. The content highlights practical considerations such as weatherproofing the connections and supporting the fiberglass elements to prevent sagging. It also includes a brief comparison to an inverted-V at similar height and a ground-mounted vertical, noting the rotatable dipole's quieter reception. The author shares insights into the iterative design process and tuning adjustments made to achieve optimal resonance.

The South African Radio League (SARL) serves as the national representative body for amateur radio in South Africa, holding membership in the International Amateur Radio Union (IARU). It actively promotes the hobby, coordinates national amateur radio activities, and provides essential services to its members, including advocacy for spectrum allocation and regulatory liaison with ICASA. The organization frequently publishes updates relevant to the ZS amateur community, such as "HF Update with ZS4BS" and reports on events like the "ZS6STN Field day." SARL supports various aspects of amateur radio, from contesting and DXing to technical experimentation and emergency communications. The league's website lists upcoming events and news, ensuring members stay informed about national and international amateur radio developments. Its focus encompasses all amateur bands, with recent updates highlighting HF activities. The league's digital presence, including its canonical URL _mysarl.org.za_, provides a central hub for South African hams. The site frequently updates with news, event schedules, and technical information, reflecting an active and engaged amateur radio community.

This resource provides a unique historical audio archive of 50 MHz DX contacts, documenting significant F2 and Es propagation events experienced by PA2S (formerly PA2HJS) since 1978. The collection includes recordings of beacons and two-way QSOs with stations across North America, South America, Asia, Australia, Europe, and Africa. Specific entries detail contacts with rare DX entities such as ZS6PW, VE1AVX, C5AEH, J52US, TR8CA, LU8MBL, VK8ZLX, and various Japanese stations, often noting the mode (SSB or CW) and propagation type. The archive also highlights challenging pile-up situations and frustrating near-misses during major openings. The recordings, initially in RealAudio format for solar cycles 21 and 22 and later in MP3 for cycle 23, offer a practical illustration of 6-meter band conditions over several solar cycles. The content allows hams to listen to actual signals from different continents, observing signal characteristics like typical TEP fading from 5H3RA or strong F2 backscatter from OZ1BVW. It provides a comparative perspective on propagation effectiveness between solar cycles, noting that cycle 23, while not as robust as previous cycles, still yielded interesting openings. The archive serves as a valuable educational tool for understanding real-world 50 MHz DXing and propagation phenomena.

Over 1900 ARISS school events have been conducted since 2000, facilitating amateur radio contacts between students and ISS crew members. This resource details the Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) program, outlining scheduled contacts, operational procedures, and application processes for educational institutions worldwide. It lists specific upcoming contacts, such as those with Lewis Center for Educational Research in California and Vauban, Ecole et Lycée français de Luxembourg, typically operating on a 145.800 MHz downlink frequency. The content also provides crucial guidelines for radio amateurs, emphasizing the importance of not interfering with scheduled school contacts and utilizing the crossband repeater for general QSOs when available. It clarifies crew availability for casual contacts, noting that astronauts are usually free during personal time, approximately one hour after waking and one hour before sleeping, and often on weekends. Constraints on scheduling, such as avoiding EVA weeks and specific crew rest periods, are also detailed. Furthermore, the resource includes historical statistics on direct versus telebridge contacts, QSL information, and links to related ARISS, AMSAT, ARRL, and NASA websites. It also provides information on applying to host an ARISS contact for schools and youth organizations in various regions, including the United States, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Canada, Central and South America, Asia, and Australia.

The International DX Amateur Radio Club provides a structured environment for amateur radio operators interested in long-distance communication. The club offers a variety of awards, including the DX Countries Award, DX United States Award, and DX Continents Award, among others. These awards recognize achievements in contacting stations across different geographical areas, such as Europe, Africa, South America, and Asia. The club also supplies resources like DX Spots, Grey Line Map, and Solar Data to assist operators in optimizing their communication strategies. The DX Code of Conduct emphasizes disciplined operating practices. Operators are encouraged to listen carefully before transmitting and ensure they have correctly identified the DX station's call sign. The guidelines advise against interfering with ongoing communications and stress the importance of patience, such as waiting for the DX station to complete a contact before calling. Operators are reminded to send their full call sign and avoid continuous calling, maintaining respect for fellow operators to foster a cooperative amateur radio community.
