For amateur radio operators utilizing _APRS_ or requiring an external antenna for their GPS receiver, this resource details the construction of a compact, circularly polarized mobile antenna. The design is based on a classic turnstile configuration, employing two dipoles rotated 90° from each other and spaced a quarter-wavelength above a ground plane. A parallel-plate transmission line, fabricated from printed circuit board material, serves as both the connection method and mounting post for the dipoles, simplifying the feed network for circular polarization at 1.57542 GHz. The article outlines the fabrication process, starting with a 4-inch diameter hobby tin or brass base plate and #14 solid copper wire elements. It specifies using _RG-58/U_ or similar 50-ohm coax, with an 8-foot maximum length to minimize loss at the GPS frequency. The parallel-plate transmission line is constructed from two 2-inch lengths of single-sided _FR-4_ or G10 PCB material, 0.062-inch thick, with a specific 45° microwave turn cut on the active side. Final assembly involves an 8-ounce cream cheese container as a radome, and the article discusses the self-phased quadrature feed method to achieve circular polarization without a coaxial phasing line, resulting in an omnidirectional pattern suitable for GPS satellite reception.

This Multiband Cubical Quad antenna a boomless Quad design with glass-fibre arms and a single coax wire connected to a remote antenna switch. This aerial work on 8 bands and has a 60-degree beam width. Despite achieving critical technical requirements, the antenna's three-dimensional structure presents obstacles, such as installation issues on fixed towers and risk of frost damage. The spider framework is built of stainless steel, with a compact 18-inch boom and strong angle iron arms. Tait use a variety of methods to fasten element wires and suggests placing them on the outside of the spreaders for improved insulation. The use of nylon twine or parachute cord between key attachment points allows for adjustable separation between pieces.

The document details the construction of a compact, two-element Quad antenna specifically designed for the 10, 12, and 15-meter HF bands, featuring a single feedline for all three bands. It provides specific dimensions for the driven element and reflector loops, along with boom length and spacing, emphasizing a **0.12 wavelength** spacing between elements. The design incorporates a gamma match for impedance transformation and uses PVC tubing for spreaders, aiming for a lightweight yet robust structure suitable for portable or restricted-space operations. Performance measurements indicate a forward gain of approximately **6 dBd** on 10 meters and a front-to-back ratio of _20 dB_ on 15 meters, demonstrating effective directivity and signal rejection. The antenna exhibits a VSWR below 1.5:1 across the target bands, achieved through careful tuning of the gamma match. This compact Quad offers a viable directional solution for HF DXing and contesting, particularly where full-size Yagis are impractical.

Presents the construction of a 10-meter Fractal Quad Yagi (FQY) antenna, detailing the design principles and practical build steps. The article highlights the antenna's compact size, with elements measuring just over 4 feet per side, making it suitable for easy erection and rotation with a TV rotator. It claims an impedance close to 50 ohms, allowing direct feed with 50-ohm coax, and specifies a 3 dBd gain with a front-to-back ratio exceeding 25 dB. Bandwidth is reported at 500 kHz for less than 2:1 VSWR. The resource includes a segment chart (Fig. 1) illustrating the precise lengths for each wire segment of the driven element and reflector, noting adjustments for different wire diameters. Construction utilizes readily available materials such as #9 aluminum ground wire and plastic water pipe for spreaders. The author, _KF7BS_, describes fabricating the framework, bending the fractal elements, and mounting them, including modifications like adding a small stub for reflector tuning. A materials list is provided, detailing items like 40-ft rolls of #9 Radio Shack aluminum ground wire and 1/2-inch plastic water pipe. Scaling equations for the driven element are discussed for different frequencies, such as designing for the CW band. The article references _Chip Cohen NIIRV_'s_ original _Fractenna_ website as the inspiration for the design.

Constructing a compact, single-feed triband Moxon antenna for 20, 15, and 10 meters is detailed by DU1RZ, drawing from his personal experience with space-constrained antenna projects. Initially fascinated by cubical quads, the author transitioned to Moxon designs in 2005 after realizing his roof space was insufficient for a bulky quad. His first experimental monoband Moxon for 15 meters, built from repurposed materials, provided solid DX QSOs for seven years, despite being slightly below the 21 MHz band center. The project outlines the design process, including using the _MOXGEN Calculator_ for element dimensions and material selection, such as #14 AWG enamel copper wire and fishing poles for spreaders. DU1RZ shares insights from simulations with DL2GMS regarding insulated versus non-insulated wire performance, noting that insulated wire can shift resonant frequencies lower. The assembly instructions cover preparing wire elements, connecting feed points, and tuning the antenna, with initial SWR measurements taken at 10 feet and final readings on a mast showing excellent results: 1.0:1 on 14.225 MHz, 1.1:1 on 21.250 MHz, and 1.3:1 on 28.50 MHz. Transmission tests with 4F1BYN indicated a front-to-back ratio of approximately 2 S units with 10 watts output. The author emphasizes adaptability, encouraging builders to use readily available materials rather than strictly replicating his setup. Key observations from DU1RZ and DL2GMS highlight the antenna's strong performance across 20, 15, and 10 meters, good front-to-back ratio, full bandwidth on 20 and 15 meters, and its small turning radius of about 4.18 meters (13.54 feet), making it suitable for limited antenna space. Its lightweight construction and low wind load are also noted as significant advantages.

This project details the construction of a compact, circularly polarized Quadrifilar Helix Antenna (QHA) designed for 146 MHz operation. The antenna features a 1/2λ1/2λ helical design with a 2.6:1 aspect ratio, providing 4.5 dB gain and a spheroid radiation pattern. It is ground plane independent and compatible with both vertical and horizontal polarizations, making it ideal for terrestrial and space communications. The design includes step-by-step instructions for building the antenna using readily available materials like aluminum rods, PVC pipes, and RG-58 coaxial cable. The antenna's performance has been validated through comparisons with commercial omnidirectional antennas, showing superior results.

The Shrunken Quad antenna is a unique design that offers full-sized performance on the 10m and 15m bands while incorporating linear loading via a trap for operation on the 20m band. This design allows for effective communication in the HF spectrum, making it suitable for both casual operators and serious DXers. The quad configuration provides excellent gain and directivity, which is beneficial for contesting and long-distance contacts. Constructing the Shrunken Quad involves careful attention to dimensions and materials to ensure optimal performance. The antenna's compact nature makes it an excellent choice for limited space situations, allowing operators to enjoy the benefits of a quad without the need for extensive real estate. This project is ideal for amateur radio enthusiasts looking to enhance their station's capabilities with a versatile and efficient antenna system.
