Demonstrates the construction of a _3MA triband mobile antenna_ designed by IZ7DJR, emphasizing a full-size quarter-wave whip for 10 meters. The design incorporates a rapid tilt-down mechanism to facilitate quick changes of loading coils for operation on 15 and 20 meters. This approach aims to minimize losses and enhance efficiency compared to conventional base-loaded mobile antennas. The resource provides specific coil winding data: 22 turns for 15 meters and **37 turns** for 20 meters, both using 1mm wire over an 80mm coil length. The 10-meter band operates without a loading coil, leveraging its full-size design. The author's design prioritizes ease of band switching and improved performance for mobile HF operations, offering a practical alternative to more lossy commercial options.

A 5 band two element quad antenna working from 20 to 10 meters using hardware-store parts or modifying an existing commercial triband quad by KC6T

The Cushcraft X7 Tribander assembly and installation manual (P/N 951470, 12/97) provides comprehensive instructions for constructing this 20-15-10 meter seven-element beam antenna. It details the sequential assembly of boom sections, individual elements, and the feed system, including the _MNX7 Matching Network_. The document emphasizes critical safety precautions regarding power lines and RF exposure, alongside recommendations for proper antenna system planning and grounding. Key sections cover verification of parts, detailed boom assembly using specific aluminum tubing (e.g., BA, BB, BC, BD, BE) and brackets, and element construction with various aluminum tube sections (e.g., EA, EB, EC, ED, EE, EF) and traps like the _15 Meter Director Trap_ (TB) and _10 Meter Director Trap_ (T9). It also specifies the use of _NOALOX® conductive lubricant_ for telescoping sections and hardware to prevent galling. The manual outlines the feed system assembly, which includes feed-straps (FL1, FL2, FL3), tuning-tube insulators, and the matching network. It also mentions the optional X740 40-meter add-on kit, which requires a separate coax feed. Detailed diagrams and parts lists with metric equivalents facilitate accurate construction and ensure the antenna performs as specified.

Triband DK7ZB VHF Yagi antenna for 6 m, 4 m and 2 m with a single feedpoint

Constructing a compact, single-feed triband Moxon antenna for 20, 15, and 10 meters is detailed by DU1RZ, drawing from his personal experience with space-constrained antenna projects. Initially fascinated by cubical quads, the author transitioned to Moxon designs in 2005 after realizing his roof space was insufficient for a bulky quad. His first experimental monoband Moxon for 15 meters, built from repurposed materials, provided solid DX QSOs for seven years, despite being slightly below the 21 MHz band center. The project outlines the design process, including using the _MOXGEN Calculator_ for element dimensions and material selection, such as #14 AWG enamel copper wire and fishing poles for spreaders. DU1RZ shares insights from simulations with DL2GMS regarding insulated versus non-insulated wire performance, noting that insulated wire can shift resonant frequencies lower. The assembly instructions cover preparing wire elements, connecting feed points, and tuning the antenna, with initial SWR measurements taken at 10 feet and final readings on a mast showing excellent results: 1.0:1 on 14.225 MHz, 1.1:1 on 21.250 MHz, and 1.3:1 on 28.50 MHz. Transmission tests with 4F1BYN indicated a front-to-back ratio of approximately 2 S units with 10 watts output. The author emphasizes adaptability, encouraging builders to use readily available materials rather than strictly replicating his setup. Key observations from DU1RZ and DL2GMS highlight the antenna's strong performance across 20, 15, and 10 meters, good front-to-back ratio, full bandwidth on 20 and 15 meters, and its small turning radius of about 4.18 meters (13.54 feet), making it suitable for limited antenna space. Its lightweight construction and low wind load are also noted as significant advantages.

Based on a simple project based on a 2 elements Yagi for 20m band, and then becomed a triband yagi with a open-sleeve feed system

This kind of antenna has grown in popularity over the last years because it gives you a decent performance and triband capabilities. But its 50 MHz design is far from optimal. Here you can learn how to improve its 50 MHz performance in a very easy way.

Refurbishing my 10 years old Cushcraft A3S triband HF Antenna

The TBJ-1 – a triband base antenna was published in March 2017 QST. This antenna covers 2M/220 MHz/70cm in one 6ft 3/4 inch PVC pipe and requires no radials.

The 1/4 wavelength vertical antenna project, initially designed for 20 meters, has evolved into a versatile portable solution covering 10 through 60 meters. K0BXB details its construction, emphasizing a bottom-loaded design with a tapped loading coil and four 10-foot counterpoise wires. The author shares personal experiences and field results, including **18 QSOs** during a park activation on 17m and 30m with 10 watts, and a **2,435-mile** contact with a contest station in Bonaire on 20m using 5 watts. Comparisons are drawn to commercial offerings like the _Wolf River Coils TIA_ and _QRPGuys Triband Vertical_, highlighting the DIY antenna's small footprint, light weight, and ease of tuning for POTA activations. The resource includes insights into using test equipment such as the _NanoVNA_ for SWR optimization and discusses various radiator lengths, from 17-foot wire to a 102-inch whip, demonstrating adaptability for different portable setups. Construction tips cover coil winding, tap placement, and connecting feedlines and radials using common components.

A cost-effective alternative to the Optibeam OB10-3W, a high-performance but expensive tri-band Yagi antenna for the 20, 17, and 15-meter bands. The original Optibeam, featuring three full-size elements on each band, delivers strong forward gain and front-to-back ratio but comes with a high price tag. To address this, a custom design was developed, offering similar performance at a fraction of the cost. Using accessible materials and a simple 1:1 current balun, the homemade version proved highly effective, making it a practical solution.

Andrew Roos (ZS6AA) details his practical approach to building a Single Operator Two Radio contest station within suburban constraints. The article explains how he leveraged a Force-12 C-31XR triband beam's unique separate feed arrangement to operate on two bands simultaneously. Using band-pass filters and an antenna switch, he achieved sufficient isolation between bands without requiring multiple towers. The setup includes automatic band selection, audio switching, and computer control. Testing during the 2007 CQ WPX CW contest confirmed the system's effectiveness, demonstrating that competitive SO2R operation is achievable with limited space and budget.
