MMSSTV - MM Hamsoft — JE3HHT

SSTV freeware software for Windows by Mako JE3HHT. MMSTV is a free software application designed for transmitting and receiving SSTV (Slow Scan Television) images over HF bands. It allows radio amateurs to share still pictures using sound-card interfaces and a transceiver. The program supports popular SSTV modes (Martin, Scottie, Robot, etc.), real-time RX/TX monitoring, and easy image editing. Its user-friendly interface and reliability make MMSTV a favorite choice among ham operators worldwide. Ideal for showcasing QSL cards, shack photos, or technical diagrams over the ai An excellent SSTV program that requires only a computer with soundcard, no expensive TNC required. Works on all Windows version including Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7.

Buckmaster's World Wide HamCall Server — Buckmaster International

Over 16.7 million callsigns are indexed within the HamCall World-Wide Callsign Database, a long-standing resource for amateur radio operators. This online tool facilitates rapid lookups of callsign data, including operator details and QSL photos, which are crucial for confirming contacts and pursuing operating awards. The database integrates FCC updates as they are released, ensuring timely access to current licensing information. The platform also features a live **DX cluster** displaying recent spots across various bands, from 160m to 3cm, with specific spot counts for active bands like 15m (50 spots) and 10m (46 spots). Users can view **band activity** summaries, providing an immediate overview of propagation conditions and active frequencies. Additionally, the service provides access to a hamfest calendar and amateur radio news updates, making it a multi-faceted resource for daily operating and event planning. Since 1989, the HamCall DVD has supported this server, alongside HamCall.net Gold Memberships, demonstrating a sustained commitment to providing comprehensive callsign data.

Morgain Antenna by DL6GD — DL6GD

This QRZ.com callbook entry by DL6GD details the construction and performance of a **40m/80m Morgain folded dipole antenna**. The resource includes a schematic diagram, construction photos, and tuning notes. The antenna, with a total length of **20.30m**, was mounted at a height varying from 4m to 6m above ground. Construction utilizes 0.75 sq mm transparent insulated copper wire, with Plexiglas spreaders (5mm thick, 70x10mm) spaced at 25mm intervals, secured with hot glue. A waterproof junction box houses the feedpoint and balun. Tuning involved adjusting wire bridges for resonance on each band. On 80m, an SWR of **1.1:1** was achieved at 3.657 MHz, with an SWR of 2.7:1 at 3.580 MHz and 2.5:1 at 3.755 MHz, yielding a bandwidth of 175 KHz. For 40m, an SWR of **1.1:1** was measured at 7.100 MHz, with 1.5:1 at 7.000 MHz and 1.3:1 at 7.200 MHz, providing a 200 KHz bandwidth. DL6GD notes that 80m tuning exhibits slight height sensitivity, while 40m tuning is less affected by height or 80m adjustments. Long-term observations from 2014 and 2022 document SWR degradation due to environmental factors like spiderwebs and ice accumulation, which can cause HF-conductive paths between elements. Build a Hustler-Compatible Mast for $5 — K5LXP

The resource details the construction of a **Hustler-compatible** HF mobile antenna mast, utilizing 1/2-inch copper water pipe and common hardware. It provides a bill of materials, specifying one 10-foot copper pipe, four 1/2-inch copper end caps, and 3/8-inch fine-thread hex bolts and nuts, totaling $8.75 for two masts. The construction process outlines preparing bolts by rounding their heads, drilling 3/8-inch holes in end caps, soldering bolts into caps, and then soldering these cap/bolt assemblies to 5-foot sections of copper pipe to achieve a final length of 54-1/4 inches per mast. The method emphasizes precise soldering techniques to ensure structural integrity and proper fit. The resulting masts are presented as functional alternatives to commercial units, with the author noting their performance is comparable to the "real thing." Installation tips are provided, including the use of braces connected to a trunk lid to mitigate stress on the antenna mount, contrasting this approach with WA8WTE's spring-based method. Photos illustrate the completed mast mounted on a vehicle, demonstrating practical application and support strategies for mobile HF operation, particularly with larger coils and longer whips at highway speeds.
