Demonstrates BBLogger, a **freeware** logging application designed for both amateur radio operators and Short Wave Listeners (SWLs). Developed by IK2VIW, IZ2BKT, and IK2UVR, this software provides comprehensive station management capabilities, including **CAT control** for various transceivers, integration with digital mode software like WSJT-X, JTDX, and MSHV, and robust QSL management features. The application supports a wide array of functions such as DX cluster interfacing, mapping, awards tracking (including custom awards), and direct integration with services like LoTW, eQSL.cc, and ClubLog for QSL confirmations and OQRS requests. It also includes utilities for ADIF to CSV conversion and vice-versa, catering to diverse logging and data management needs. Recent updates, such as version 13.1, introduce a web server for log management from any device, allowing remote access and control. The software has improved ADIF import capabilities, including time settings for duplicate QSO detection, and enhanced filtering options for log searches. Performance improvements include faster automatic updates and manager database synchronization, along with optimized log checking at startup. Earlier versions added support for FT8 and FT4 modes, refined OQRS integration with ClubLog, and expanded QSL/label printing functionalities, enabling users to select specific callsign types (OM, SWL) for printing. The developers emphasize compatibility with Windows 10/11 for full functionality, noting limitations when running on older operating systems like Windows 7 due to modern security protocol requirements.

IZ5CML, Enrico Giannerini, obtained his amateur radio license in 1998, achieving DXCC contacts with all entities over 18 years of activity. His station, located in Empoli, Tuscany, Italy, focuses on HF and 50 MHz operations, primarily using SSB, CW, and some RTTY. He emphasizes direct radio communication, preferring "human modes" over digital modes like FT8/4, which he views as detaching the operator from the signal. Enrico's operating interests include DXing, IOTA activations, and major HF contests, where he has participated both individually and with teams like IQ5LV and IO5O. Notable activations include Sao Miguel and Flores (CU8, EU-089) in the Azores in 2005, and Antiparos and Paros (EU-067) in Greece in 2006 and 2014. He also contributes to the Hamradioweb forum, promoting good operating practices and publishing the monthly "Dxschedule" for upcoming DX and contest activities. The website includes a blog with articles on DX, ionospheric propagation, and antennas, reflecting his long-standing passion for radio, sparked by the 1980s film "La Tenda Rossa" and years as an SWL.

LA6EIA Ole's DX-blog details shortwave listening (SWL) and amateur radio DX operations from Norway, providing insights into propagation conditions and station reception. The blog frequently features specific reception reports, often including details such as frequency, mode, and signal strength, alongside observations of various broadcast and utility stations. It documents the author's personal experiences in chasing DX, offering a practical perspective on radio propagation and equipment performance. The content includes logs of received stations, sometimes accompanied by audio clips or screenshots of waterfall displays, illustrating successful decodes or strong signal captures. This resource presents a chronological record of DX achievements and challenges, reflecting the dynamic nature of radio propagation across different bands and times. The blog distinguishes itself by its focus on real-world SWL and amateur radio DXing from a Nordic QTH, offering a unique regional perspective on global radio phenomena. It serves as a personal journal of radio exploration, highlighting specific callsigns, frequencies, and operational details encountered during DX sessions.

First released in 1988, _SWLog_ is a comprehensive suite of applications providing logging and remote control for both amateur radio and shortwave, utility, and broadcast listening. It integrates program schedules from sources like _HFCC_, _ILGRadio_, and _EiBi_ for broadcast reception, while also linking with amateur radio logbooks such as _ClubLog_, _eQSL_, _QRZ_, and _LoTW_. The software supports radio control for various transceivers, including _Flex_, Icom, Yaesu, and Kenwood, alongside interfaces like _FLRig_, _OmniRig_, and _HamLib_. Mobile applications for Android and iOS facilitate on-the-go logging and remote control, seamlessly transferring logs without manual ADIF export. _SWLog_ leverages an enterprise-grade relational database (SQL Server) for robust data management and analytics, enabling features like mapping QSOs by band or state. It offers specific integrations for _POTA_ monitoring, displaying active spots with real-time propagation and automatic radio tuning. The application's scalability allows multiple users to log to a centralized database, suitable for Field Day or DXpeditions. The user interface features modern aesthetics with light, dark, and gray themes, the latter optimized for outdoor visibility during activities like _POTA_ or _SOTA_. The Plus Edition, available for an annual fee, expands capabilities with advanced QSL integration, additional map providers, and enhanced propagation calculations using _VOACAP_.

This guide explores the captivating hobby of shortwave listening (SWL), offering insights for beginners and enthusiasts alike. It covers key shortwave broadcast bands, essential tools like antennas and receivers, and practical tips to enhance listening experiences. Recommendations include budget-friendly SDR receivers, traditional radios like the TECSUN PL-680, and antennas suited for various environments. Monitoring radio communications through web-accessible Software Defined Radios (SDRs) has become a popular facet of the hobby, and Receiverbook serves as a centralized directory for locating these remote assets. The platform aggregates listings for both **OpenWebRX+** and **KiwiSDR** installations, providing a gateway to a diverse array of frequencies and operating modes. My own experience with similar directories highlights their utility for casual listening, DXing, and even troubleshooting local RFI by comparing signals across different geographic locations. The directory details specific receiver locations, from Bedford, England, to Marahau, New Zealand, and Berlin, Germany. Each entry often specifies the supported frequency ranges, which can span LF, MF, HF, VHF, and UHF bands, including dedicated segments like 80m, 40m, 2m, and 70cm. Many listings explicitly note support for HAM radio, broadcast services, and public two-way radio, making it a versatile tool for various listening interests. Beyond general frequency coverage, some entries provide granular details about the underlying hardware, such as the **SDRPlay RSP1A** or RTL-SDR Blog V3, and even the antenna types employed, like the Sirio Gain-Master. This level of detail is invaluable for serious SWLs and hams looking to understand the capabilities and limitations of a particular remote receiver before tuning in.

Define the SWL contest 2026 as an event for monitoring a variety of languages on _medium wave_ (MW) and _shortwave_ (SW) AM radio stations. Participants can utilize either traditional radio receivers or _WEB SDR_ platforms to log their findings. The contest encourages the use of both analog and digital methods to maximize the diversity of languages captured. The contest rules specify that entries must include detailed logs of the stations received, including frequency, time, and language identified. Logs should be submitted in a standardized format to ensure consistency and accuracy in judging. The use of WEB SDR is particularly highlighted for its ability to access distant stations that may not be reachable with local equipment. The contest is open to all SWL enthusiasts worldwide, with a focus on European WEB SDR access. The event aims to foster a deeper understanding of global broadcasting patterns and linguistic diversity. Participants are encouraged to explore various bands within the MW and SW spectrum, enhancing their skills in signal identification and language recognition. The contest offers a unique opportunity to engage with the global SWL community and share insights into the art of listening.
