The BV6 50 MHz Yagis resource details the construction of two distinct Yagi antenna designs for the 6-meter band, specifically a 1-wavelength (1wl) model and a 2.1-wavelength (2.1wl) model. The 1wl Yagi, with a boom length of 5.850m, achieves a gain of **9.4 dBd**, while the 2.1wl Yagi, spanning 12.90m, boasts a gain of **11.9 dBd**. These designs adhere to a proven methodology for optimizing current slope and maintaining constant phase delay across parasitic elements, ensuring high gain per boom length and an _excellent pattern_. Both designs target a 50-ohm input impedance, facilitating straightforward feeding with a robust folded dipole. Final verification using NEC-II software confirmed the antennas' exceptional stacking capabilities, yielding stacking gains exceeding **5.8 dB** for a 2x2 array with minimal mutual detuning. The resource provides common mechanical data, including boom and element diameters, and specifies element lengths corrected for boom diameter. While the original _DUBUS Technik V_ publication contained incorrect element lengths, this resource provides the accurate dimensions for proper construction, emphasizing the use of readily available materials for cost-effective amateur radio deployment.

Demonstrates the design and construction of a compact, portable multi-band mini-delta loop antenna, specifically optimized for /P (portable) operations from remote locations like Scottish islands. The resource covers the theoretical underpinnings of half-wave loops, contrasting closed and open configurations, and then details the application of a folded dipole principle to achieve a 50-ohm match for direct coax feed. It presents empirical formulas for calculating element lengths, considering the velocity factor of common wire types, and provides a detailed example for a 20m (14.175 MHz) version. The article includes a comprehensive table of dimensions and allowances for a five-band (20m, 17m, 15m, 12m, 10m) mini-delta beam, along with construction hints for the central support and balun. It specifies a 1:1 trifilar balun wound on a ferrite rod and describes the antenna adjustment process using an _MFJ-259B Antenna Analyser_. Initial test results indicate an SWR of 1:1 at resonance and a bandwidth of approximately 240 kHz on 20m, even at a low height of five feet above ground. The distinctive utility lies in its focus on a practical, easily deployable beam antenna for portable DXing, offering a viable alternative to more complex or larger arrays.

It offers guidance on minimizing SWR and maximizing gain, drawing from real-world building experiences to assist constructors in replicating successful designs.

This resource examines the appropriate use of /M (mobile) and /P (portable) suffixes in amateur radio callsigns, specifically within the context of the UK Amateur Radio Licence. It addresses common ambiguities and challenges in determining operational status, such as operating from a summit or while walking. The discussion references the licence version in force before February 21, 2024, noting that while current regulations recommend but do not specify suffix use, the prior definitions remain relevant for understanding common practice. The content dissects key sections of the licence, including "Notes to the licence" (d)(i-iii) which outlines /A, /P, and /M usage based on location, and "Temporary Location" (jj) which defines /P operations. It also clarifies "Mobile" (17(1)(x)) as operating in or on a vehicle, on a pedestrian, or on a vessel on inland waters. The author provides examples and recommendations for choosing between /M and /P when both might apply, such as when operating from a parked car with a deployed mast or using a handheld on a summit. Historical notes from M1MAJ, G8ADD, and G6MZX are included, tracing the evolution of suffix rules from pre-BR68 days to the 1977 licence version. These historical perspectives highlight how past regulations have influenced current interpretations and persistent myths regarding /M usage. The resource emphasizes making an informed choice based on the licence and communicating the station's operational circumstances clearly.

The ADIF Processor is an online application that visualizes amateur radio contacts from an ADIF log file using Google Earth. SOTA CSV log files can also be used. As well as allowing you to view and explore your contacts in Google Earth, you will be able to see a Markdown or text table of contacts, use the output ADIF file which contains QRZ.com data, accurate contact distances and fields populated from comments in the input file. Print QSL labels. One of the benefits of using the ADIF Processor before uploading/storing your ADIF file is detecting errors in callsigns and activity references (e.g. POTA or SOTA references).

Amateur radio repeaters, often designated by an "R" number like _R6_ or _R5_, serve as crucial infrastructure for extending VHF/UHF communications range. This resource from Essex Ham explains the fundamental concept of a repeater, detailing how it receives on one frequency and simultaneously retransmits on another, typically with a 600 kHz offset for 2-meter repeaters. Understanding the input and output frequencies, along with the required CTCSS tone, is essential for successful access, ensuring your signal is processed and relayed across a wider service area. The article clarifies the importance of using the correct _CTCSS_ (Continuous Tone-Coded Squelch System) tone, often referred to as a sub-audible tone, to activate a specific repeater. It also touches upon the concept of _simplex_ operation versus repeater use, highlighting the benefits of repeaters for mobile and handheld transceivers. Proper operating procedures, such as listening before transmitting and keeping transmissions concise, are emphasized to maintain good amateur practice on shared repeater assets.

The Icom IC-7300 transceiver's stock cooling fan, a 12VDC unit typically run at 6VDC with a 10VDC transmit kick, is often perceived as noisy. This modification replaces the original fan with a **Noctua NF-A8 PWM** fan, which is described as "silent" even during the initial 10V transmit kick. The resource provides specific wiring details, noting black for negative and yellow for positive connections, and suggests using readily available 2-pin fan plugs for a clean installation. This fan replacement significantly reduces operational noise, improving the user experience of the IC-7300. The Noctua NF-A8 PWM fan is available for under £20 in the UK, making it an accessible upgrade. The modification is presented as a straightforward process, enhancing the rig's acoustic profile without compromising cooling efficiency, based on the experience of Bjorn Eklund, **SM7IUN**.

Further, the resource discusses general amateur radio operating procedures, the evolution of the hobby, and its critical role in emergency communications, citing examples from hurricanes _Irma_ and _Maria_ in 2017 and the conflict in Ukraine in 2022.

The 4m Slim Jim antenna project provides a construction guide for a low-cost, high-performance aerial designed specifically for the 70 MHz FM band. This design achieves a 1:1 SWR across the 4m FM band with straightforward adjustment of the feed point, utilizing RG-58 coax. Its low angle of radiation contributes to effective signal propagation. Construction involves using plastic knitting needles as spreaders and a telescopic fishing pole for support, with components secured using two-part epoxy. Annealed bare single-core copper wire forms the radiating element. The setup process includes raising the antenna at least 3 meters above ground for tuning, adjusting the RG-58 feed point for optimal SWR, and then soldering connections. Waterproofing is achieved with yacht varnish. The design emphasizes low wind resistance for durability, making it suitable for exposed outdoor installations. A PDF construction diagram is available to supplement the written instructions.
