A 6 dB gain Moxon rectangle antenna, designed for the 2-meter band, offers an excellent solution for hams seeking a compact, directional antenna for **SSB** operation, particularly in restricted spaces like an attic. This design emphasizes ease of construction using readily available materials such as 4mm OD brass tubing and plywood, making it an accessible project for many radio amateurs. The antenna's inherent characteristics, including a high front-to-back ratio of 37 dB and a 50-ohm feed impedance, contribute to its effectiveness in mitigating local noise and focusing radiated power. The project leverages the free MoxGen program for precise dimension calculations based on the desired frequency and wire size, and utilizes 4nec2 for pattern analysis, confirming a 3 dB beamwidth of 80 degrees. Construction involves bending brass tubing for the driven and passive elements, mounting them on an 800 x 350 mm plywood boom, and securing them with cable clips and epoxy resin. Initial SWR measurements at 144.3 MHz showed 1.6:1, which improved to 1.3:1 at 145.3 MHz across a flat band from 144.1 MHz to 145.5 MHz after adding a **coaxial choke** to mitigate common mode current.

This project was intended to accompany the stealth antenna project. Author want to see how effective a noise canceller could be in reducing the background noise floor when attic / stealth antennas are being used.

Constructing a 2-meter Moxon antenna for MURS channels, this resource details the antenna's geometry and expected radiation pattern. The design, optimized for low SWR, high gain, and front-to-back ratio on the first three MURS channels, uses 1/8-inch bronze brazing rod for elements. Author John E. Davis provides specific geometric parameters (A, B, C, D dimensions) rounded to the nearest 16th of an inch, along with a link to the final _.nec_ file for further analysis. Performance results show the attic-mounted Moxon performs well on the 2-meter band, despite its MURS optimization, with measured SWR plots provided. NEC-2 modeling predicts over 6 dBi gain and 40 dBi front-to-back ratio in free space. The author compares its directional performance to a _J-pole_ antenna, demonstrating substantially better signal strength for a nearby repeater when the Moxon is pointed in its general direction, confirming its superior gain and directivity.

How to receive automatically NOAA wather satellite images with a Raspberry Pi and a RTL SDR. This project requires a Raspberry Pi 3 Model B a common NooElec SDR Dongle and a QFH Antenna in the attic. Article explains how to setup and configure software but no instructions on antenna.

This simple antenna was installed on the attic. Antenna was matched with help an Automatic ATU in 40, 30, 20, 17, 15, 12 and 10 meter amateur Bands. The Antenna worked satisfactory on the above mentioned bands.

Operating in antenna-restricted communities presents unique challenges for amateur radio operators, often necessitating creative solutions for antenna deployment. This resource details the design and implementation of stealth antennas within a townhouse community in Exton, PA, where external antennas were strictly forbidden by covenants. The author, WB5NHL, describes his setup, which involved locating the shack in the basement and utilizing an unused space under the roofline of a finished third-floor loft for antenna placement. The content specifically addresses the practicalities of routing coax cables three floors and maximizing antenna performance within limited attic space. It covers solutions for multi-band operation, including dedicated sections for 40-10 meter and 80-meter antennas, along with strategies for mitigating potential interference issues. The approach emphasizes full compliance with community covenants, achieving maximum height-above-ground for horizontal antennas, enabling instant band switching, and efficiently utilizing available attic volume. While acknowledging limitations such as potential interference with high power and fixed antenna patterns, the resource provides a detailed account of a functional compromise for restricted environments. Links to individual pages on _coax cables_, _40-10 meter antennas_, _80-meter antennas_, and _interference issues_ offer deeper dives into each specific aspect of the installation.

This is a remote antenna switch I use in my attic to connect transceivers in the basement to multiple antennas in the attic. The goal of this project is to be able to remotely connect one of the antennas in the attic to the only antenna cable available.

A comprehensive overview of a 10-band attic antenna system developed for contesting and DXing is presented, covering its evolution and performance. Initially intended in a restricted location, the system has been developed through numerous iterations, using various antenna types such as delta loops and Yagis. Automatic switching, dual-direction capability, and optimum tuning for certain band segments are among the most notable features. The project not only improves operating efficiency but also provides great learning opportunities in antenna design and installation in restricted places.

This article details a ham radio operator’s experience setting up HF antennas in an antenna-restricted community. Initially using an AEA Isoloop magnetic loop for QRP PSK, the author later built an attic antenna system, including dipoles for multiple HF bands and a slinky dipole for 40 meters. The setup allowed for operation on six bands with acceptable VSWR. Despite space constraints and some compromises, performance was effective. The article highlights practical strategies, emphasizing experimentation and antenna modeling for optimizing performance in limited-space environments. A valuable guide for ham radio operators facing similar restrictions.

An attic wire antenna with several modifications during the time. Began as a simple coax fed doublet antenna, and upgraded to a multi-band hf fan dipole, till the G5RV all deployed in an attic.

This article details the development of an 80-meter antenna within the confines of a restrictive covenant community. Faced with limited space, the author explores various options before implementing a clever hybrid design: a short 30-foot vertical wire running discreetly down the building's exterior combined with a capacitive top hat installed in the attic. Computer modeling confirmed the superiority of capacitive loading over inductive loading, increasing radiation resistance from 6 to 14 ohms. The perimeter wire top hat, naturally supported by the attic structure, resonates effectively at 3.5 MHz. The system is completed with four buried 60-foot radials installed "after dark" to maintain compliance with community restrictions.
