Accessing real-time public safety and amateur radio communications often requires specialized scanning equipment or a local presence. Broadcastify addresses this by offering a web-based platform that streams live audio feeds directly to listeners, enabling remote monitoring of various radio systems. This particular page aggregates twelve distinct audio streams covering the Las Vegas-Henderson metropolitan area, providing a centralized point for monitoring local emergency services and ham radio activity. The available feeds include public safety channels for entities like Boulder City Fire, Henderson Fire Dispatch, and Nevada Highway Patrol in Clark County. Additionally, several amateur radio repeaters are streamed, such as the _DMR NX7R 449.62500_ MHz repeater, the _Dstar 449.575 W7AES_ machine, and repeaters associated with the _Sin City Repeater Group_ and _W7HEN Henderson ARC_. These amateur radio streams offer insights into local ham operations, club activities, and emergency communication drills. While the primary Las Vegas Metro Police Department feed is noted as offline due to encryption, the platform continues to provide a diverse selection of other local public safety and amateur radio transmissions. This allows enthusiasts and emergency communicators to stay informed about regional events and ham radio nets without needing a physical scanner.

Operating on the HF bands, Kenwood's TS-990S and TS-890S transceivers represent their flagship offerings, providing advanced features for DXing and contesting. My personal experience with Kenwood gear, particularly the TS-590SG, confirms their reputation for solid receive performance and clean transmit audio, often noted in pileups. The TS-590SG, a popular choice for many hams, delivers reliable performance across the HF and 6-meter bands, making it a versatile station centerpiece. Accessing current contact information for amateur radio operators is crucial for QSLing, award tracking, and general communication within the Ham Radio community. This online tool provides a specialized callbook service, focusing exclusively on Croatian (9A) amateur radio operators who maintain active membership with the Hrvatski Radioamaterski Savez (HRS). It functions as a centralized database, allowing users to look up specific 9A call signs and retrieve associated information, primarily for verification purposes within the Croatian amateur radio scene. The utility of such a focused callbook lies in its direct relevance to local and regional operating activities, including contests, nets, and emergency communications within Croatia. While not a global callbook like QRZ.com or HamQTH, it serves a vital role for Croatian hams and those seeking to confirm contacts with 9A stations, ensuring data accuracy by linking entries directly to HRS membership status. This targeted approach streamlines the process of verifying Croatian amateur radio licenses and membership details.

Demonstrates a practical online tool for locating amateur radio operators by geographic area, specifically using US ZIP codes. This utility allows users to input at least three digits of a desired ZIP code to retrieve a list of active licensees. Search results can be sorted by _call sign_, name, license expiration date, or ZIP code, providing flexibility in data organization. The service offers two primary output formats: direct display in a web browser, which omits address details for privacy, or export to a tab-delimited file, which includes full address information suitable for import into spreadsheet or database applications like _Excel_. This lookup service proves useful for local club organizers seeking to identify potential members within their service area or for hams planning local nets or events. The ability to export data with address details facilitates direct mailings for club newsletters or event announcements, while the browser view maintains privacy for casual lookups. The tool's design prioritizes ease of use, requiring minimal input to generate relevant local amateur radio contact information.

Manually programming D-Star handheld transceivers like the _Icom ID-51A_ and _ID-31A_ can be a straightforward process, enabling operators to configure repeaters, simplex frequencies, and D-Star specific settings without relying on computer software. This method is particularly useful for field operations or when quick adjustments are needed, allowing hams to set up callsign routing, DR mode, and reflector links directly from the radio's interface. Understanding the menu structure and key sequences is crucial for efficient on-the-fly programming. Operators often find manual programming invaluable for activating new D-Star repeaters encountered during travel or for participating in local nets where specific G2 or G3 gateway configurations are required. While software like _CS-51_ offers convenience for bulk programming, the ability to manually input frequencies and D-Star parameters ensures operational flexibility. This approach also helps hams troubleshoot connectivity issues by verifying individual settings directly on the transceiver, ensuring proper D-Star registration and gateway access.

Operating a ham station often involves encountering radio frequency interference (RFI), RF feedback, or RF burns, which are frequently misattributed to poor equipment grounding. This resource meticulously dissects these assumptions, asserting that RF grounds on the operating desk often merely mask more significant system flaws. It identifies five primary causes for RF problems, including antenna system design flaws, proximity of the antenna to the operating position, DC power supply ground loops, equipment design defects, and poorly installed connectors or defective cables. The content emphasizes that issues like "hot cabinets" or changes in SWR when connecting a ground indicate substantial RF flowing over wiring or cabinets, a phenomenon known as common-mode current. The article provides detailed explanations of common-mode current generation, particularly from single-wire fed antennas like longwires, random wires, and OCF dipoles, which inherently present high levels of RF in the shack. It also illustrates how vertical antennas, lacking a perfect ground system, can excite feed lines with significant common-mode current. Through simulations, the author demonstrates how a dipole without a proper _balun_ can cause RF problems at the operating desk, showing current patterns and voltage distributions on feed line shields. The discussion extends to the proper application of _RF isolators_ and _ferrite beads_, clarifying their role in modifying common-mode impedance on cable shields and cautioning against their use as a band-aid for fundamental system defects. The resource advocates for correcting the actual source of RF problems, such as antenna system issues or poor connector mounting, rather than relying on internal shack grounding or isolators. It highlights that properly functioning two-conductor feed lines, like coaxial or open-wire lines, should result in minimal RF levels at the operating position, even without a desk RF ground. The author shares personal experience, noting that his stations since the late 1970s have operated without RF grounds at the desks, relying instead on proper antenna system design and feed line integrity.
