The best way to describe a go-box is a complete amateur radio station in a box. An example is described in this article. The project describes building a portable amateur (ham) radio station, known as a "go-box," housed in a durable orange Pelican case. The go-box contains all necessary radio equipment except for external power and antennae, which are carried separately. It includes items like a Yaesu transceiver, power supply, antenna tuner, speaker, and a clock. The case is designed for mobility and visibility, with a vertical layout to allow in-vehicle operation. Future upgrades might include cooling fans, an LED lamp, and built-in antennae for better functionality in various conditions.

FDLog, a Python-based freeware application, addresses the challenge of synchronized logging for multi-station Field Day operations. It facilitates real-time data sharing across a wireless network, enabling operators to monitor band status and active transmitters at a glance. The software's input system is optimized for minimal keystrokes, streamlining the logging process during intense contest periods. Key features include database synchronization over a wireless network, ensuring all connected computers maintain identical log data. FDLog also incorporates a time synchronization function, designed to keep client programs within a second of a designated master machine, mitigating issues previously encountered with NTP. This internal clock sync can be optionally disabled if not required by the operating setup. Developed initially on Windows 2000, FDLog has demonstrated compatibility with _Linux_ and _macOS_ environments, though some font rendering issues may occur on the latter. The program assists in preparing the ARRL Field Day entry form, simplifying the submission of contest results. User feedback and ARRL rule changes drive ongoing development, with a discussion list available for community support and input.

The _Sci.Electronics FAQ: Repair: RFI/EMI Info_ document, authored by Daniel 9V1ZV, provides a detailed analysis of computer-generated RFI/EMI, focusing on its impact on radio reception. It identifies common RFI sources such as CPU clock rates (e.g., 4.77 MHz to 80 MHz), video card oscillators (e.g., 14.316 MHz), and even keyboard microprocessors, all of which generate square-wave harmonics across HF and L-VHF regions. The resource outlines a systematic procedure for pinpointing RFI origins, including disconnecting peripherals and using a portable AM/SW receiver with a ferrite rod antenna to localize strong interference sources. The document categorizes RFI mitigation into shielding, filtering, and design problems, offering practical solutions for each. It recommends applying conductive sprays like _EMI-LAC_ or _EMV-LACK_ to plastic casings of radios, monitors, and CPUs to create effective Faraday cages, emphasizing proper grounding and avoiding short circuits. For filtering, the guide suggests using line filters, ferrite beads, and toroids on power and data lines, and small value capacitors (e.g., 0.01 uF for serial/parallel, 100 pF for video) to shunt RFI to ground. It also discusses the use of bandpass, high-pass, low-pass, and notch filters on the receiver front-end or antenna feed to combat specific in-band noise.

The article "Icom IC7300 RTC Fix" details the meticulous repair of an Icom IC-7300's faulty real-time clock (RTC). The author and a friend, Nacho, discovered the RTC was gaining an unacceptable 11 seconds per day. Investigations revealed the Seiko Epson RX8803LC RTC was far outside its specified stability. Despite replacing the RTC and a burned pullup resistor, the transceiver still malfunctioned, leading to the replacement of the processor. Post-repair, the clock's accuracy improved significantly, now gaining only 1.4 seconds per month. This narrative underscores the complexities of electronic repairs and the satisfaction of resolving intricate issues.

Provides access to a robust DX cluster node, G6NHU-2, running DX Spider software, which facilitates real-time amateur radio contact spotting across HF bands. This service is engineered for high reliability and low latency, ensuring rapid dissemination of DX spots from a global network of interconnected nodes. It features multiple redundant links to prevent data loss and maintain continuous operation, even if individual connections drop. The cluster integrates directly with the Reverse Beacon Network (RBN), allowing users to enable or disable skimmer spots for specific modes like CW, RTTY, FT8, and FT4.
