Capturing intermittent radio transmissions efficiently requires a robust audio recording solution that can intelligently manage disk space. Scanrec, a freeware Windows application, addresses this by providing a **Voice Operated Exchange (VOX)** control feature, enabling the recorder to activate only when audio signals exceed a user-defined threshold. This functionality is particularly effective for **FM communications** due to their strong squelch characteristics, minimizing recordings of static or noise. The software supports recording radio communications, air traffic control, and infrequently active channels, preserving disk space by pausing when no sound is detected. It incorporates an anti-clipping feature to ensure the beginning of audio events is not lost, a common issue with mechanical VOX systems. Output files are saved in WAV format, compatible with standard Windows Media Player. Scanrec operates on older Windows systems including Win95, Win98, NT, W2000, and XP, requiring minimal resources like a 486 PC, 4 MB RAM, and a sound card with line or microphone input. While optimized for FM, its VOX gate can be challenging to set for HF ham bands and World Band radio due to their poorer signal-to-noise ratios.

AudioCapture recorder software for Windows, Runs in the background, and starts recording when sound is detected from the microphone input.

Voice Shaper is a freeware windows speech pre-processor for SSB transceivers. It receives the voice signal from the microphone connected to the soundcard, and sends the processed audio back to the soundcard in real time by Alex Shovkoplyas, VE3NEA

Approximately 400 kHz is the primary frequency for Navtex broadcasts, a crucial maritime safety information system. This legacy software, _Frisnit Navtex Decoder_ version 2.1.5, provides a means to decode these messages directly from an amateur radio receiver's audio output, fed into a PC's microphone input. It operates by processing the audio stream, extracting the FSK (Frequency Shift Keying) data, and presenting the decoded text on a Windows platform. Despite being unsupported and no longer under active development, the application remains functional across a wide range of Microsoft operating systems, from _Windows 95_ through _Windows 11_. Its utility lies in offering a straightforward, no-cost solution for hams and SWLs interested in monitoring Navtex transmissions without specialized hardware. The software's design focuses on simplicity, allowing users to quickly set up and begin decoding maritime weather forecasts, navigation warnings, and other safety-critical information. It leverages the PC's sound card, making it accessible with minimal additional equipment beyond a receiver capable of tuning to the Navtex frequencies.

MultiKeyer is a dedicated computer keying program designed for amateur radio operators engaging in specialized operating activities such as Earth-Moon-Earth (EME) and Meteor Scatter, as well as general contest operations. It provides distinct modes for both CW and Phone transmissions, enabling automated message sequencing and playback of pre-recorded audio files. The software's interface shares a similar "look and feel" to the popular WSJT Meteor Scatter/EME program, facilitating ease of use for operators familiar with that platform. For CW operations, MultiKeyer offers an EME Auto mode for sending timed messages crucial for EME and Meteor Scatter, alongside a Contest mode that handles automatic CQ calls and preprogrammed messages. On the Phone side, it features a Sequenced Phone mode for transmitting prerecorded .wav files during Meteor Scatter events and an Auto Phone mode for contest use. The program leverages serial COM ports for CW and PTT signaling, and the soundcard for .wav file playback, with configurable PTT interrupt options. MultiKeyer integrates with TRX-Manager for PTT and CW keying, and can send callsigns for logging. It also supports WSJT-style "callsign.txt" files for lookups and adheres to the SO2R protocol for parallel port connections. Designed for Windows 98 and NT, it generally functions on Windows 95, ME, XP, and 2000, requiring a 133 MHz Pentium-class processor.

Managing extensive QSO data efficiently requires robust logging software capable of handling diverse operational needs, from casual ragchewing to competitive contesting. HAM OFFICE provides a comprehensive solution for amateur radio operators, integrating essential logging functionalities with advanced features for analysis and award tracking. It supports detailed QSO entry, offers various display and evaluation options, and includes helpful functions to guide users through its interface, ensuring a smooth workflow for both new and experienced hams. The software's design emphasizes user-friendliness while incorporating a wide array of functions, making it suitable for different screen sizes and operating preferences. It features innovative databases for enhanced data protection, improved handling despite increased functionality, and significant speed gains from new background calculations. The program runs stably on Windows XP through 11 (32 and 64 bit) and offers a mobile app for QSO entry and analysis on _tablet PCs_ and smartphones. HAM OFFICE is widely adopted, with an estimated **80%** of German contests logged using the software, and it is utilized by amateurs in **58** DXCC entities. The program supports various aspects of amateur radio, including contest logging, detailed evaluations, and integration with internet resources and shack equipment. It also provides specific support for new license classes like DN9 and actively supports initiatives such as the recognition of _Morse Telegraphy_ as a cultural heritage.

Deciphering weak or noisy **CW** (Continuous Wave) signals often presents a challenge for amateur radio operators, particularly in contest environments or during DXpeditions. CWLab04X addresses this by providing a software solution that leverages **DSP** (Digital Signal Processing) capabilities of a soundcard to decode Morse code. It functions as both a receiver and a sender, supporting traditional CW and a unique "CCW" mode designed to enhance copyability of signals struggling against high noise floors. The program offers two installation methods: a Windows-specific installer for straightforward setup or a zipped package compatible with Windows and Linux systems running Wine. Users must first download and review the accompanying PDF documentation, CWLab04.pdf and CWLab04_Hardware.pdf, which detail the software's operation and the necessary soundcard interface circuit. The hardware PDF outlines a direct connection from the receiver audio output to the soundcard input, with optional conversion of the soundcard output for hard-keying or microphone input. CWLab04X is intended as an operational aid rather than a replacement for skilled human copy, particularly highlighting the effectiveness of its CCW mode in adverse signal conditions. The software was last revised in April 2009, with installation requiring the LV Runtime 602.
