Coax is a very important part of a satellite station. It is almost as important as the antennas you choose. This article discusses choosing coaxial cables for satellite communication, emphasizing factors like line loss. It compares types such as RG-8, RG-58, Belden 9913/9913F, LMR-400, and hardline, highlighting their impact on signal preservation.

The document provides a comprehensive overview of baluns, which are devices used to connect balanced loads, like dipole antennas, to unbalanced inputs, such as coaxial cables. It covers various types of baluns, including voltage and current baluns, and their design, construction, and testing. The text discusses the importance of baluns in preventing RF currents on coax shields and their applications in Ham radio setups. It also includes practical advice on selecting and using baluns based on antenna impedance and power ratings, along with detailed performance evaluations and construction tips for different balun configurations.

Operating an amateur radio club, VE2CEV details its activities, including regular meetings and a significant project involving the construction of a **satellite ground station**. The resource outlines the project's inception, team formation, equipment acquisition, and the physical installation of antennas and rotator systems. It specifically mentions the use of a dual-axis AZ/EL rotator and antennas for VHF, UHF, and SHF (2 meters, 70 centimeters, and 13 centimeters), along with the strategic use of **Heliax cables** to minimize RF signal loss. The club also provides information on its interconnected repeater network covering southwestern Montérégie. The content highlights the practical application of the satellite station for communicating via amateur satellites and the International Space Station (ISS). It details the collaborative effort of members in securing a powerful Linux server, negotiating antenna installation with local authorities, and the precise alignment of antennas. The club emphasizes its role in guiding new amateurs, offering demonstrations, and potentially organizing courses, indicating a focus on community engagement and technical education within the amateur radio hobby.

The article details how to eliminate Radio Frequency Interference (RFI) from the Behringer HA400 headphone amplifier when used in ham radio setups. While the HA400 is praised for its quality and affordability, it was not designed for RF environments, causing distortion when used with a 500-watt radio station. Initial attempts using clamp-on ferrites on the headphone and power cables only partially resolved the issue. Upon opening the unit, the author discovered the circuit lacked RF bypassing components. The solution involved installing 0.1μF (104) capacitors at key points in the circuit: the power supply input, audio circuits, and op amp inputs. This modification, combined with the external ferrites, completely eliminated the RFI problem, making the unit suitable for ham radio operations.
