Normal mode helix antennas offer a solution for HF mobile operators facing significant height restrictions, such as those parking in indoor garages with limited overhead clearance. This design, adapted from concepts typically applied to VHF/UHF rubber duck antennas, allows for extremely shortened HF radiators that remain effective for county hunting and general mobile operation. The resource details the construction of a 20-meter helix antenna, approximately 10 inches long, wound with #14 AWG THHN wire on a 1 1/2-inch CPVC form, mounted on a standard 3/8 x 24 antenna stud. Mark Herson, _N2MH_, shares his experience developing these antennas, including initial research from the _RSGB VHF UHF Manual_ and practical winding experiments to establish the relationship between turns and resonant frequency. He provides coil data for various frequencies, emphasizing that these measurements were taken with an _MFJ-259a_ antenna analyzer and are dependent on the vehicle's grounding system. Despite their shortened nature, N2MH confirms the antennas' operational effectiveness, citing contacts with KL1V in Alaska on 20 meters and E-skip contacts on 10 meters. The design prioritizes continuous deployment without removal, making it suitable for operators who frequently navigate height-restricted environments.

Journal is a **freeware logbook software** designed for Windows operating systems, providing amateur radio operators with a robust tool for managing their contacts. It supports both real-time logging during a QSO and post-event data entry, allowing flexibility for different operating styles. The software facilitates the creation of QSL cards and address labels directly from logged data, streamlining the QSLing process. Additionally, it can generate log sheets specifically formatted for the RSGB VHF-UHF-SHF Competition, which is beneficial for contesters. Derek, G7LFC, developed Journal to be Year 2000 compliant, ensuring its longevity and reliability for logging contacts across different eras. The program supports various operating modes, making it versatile for general DXing, contesting, and everyday ragchewing. Its ability to produce competition-specific logs and QSL materials makes it a practical utility for active operators.

This resource details the computer-optimized design of the _ZS6BKW_ multiband dipole, an evolution of the classic _G5RV_ antenna. It begins by referencing the original 1958 RSGB Bulletin article by Louis Varney G5RV, explaining the operational principles of the G5RV's flat-top and open-wire feedline on 20m and 40m, noting its impedance transformation characteristics for valve amplifiers of that era. The article then transitions to the rationale for optimizing the design for contemporary solid-state transceivers requiring a 50 Ohm match. The core of the project involves using computer modeling to determine optimal lengths for the flat-top and matching section, aiming for a VSWR of less than 2:1 on multiple HF bands. It discusses the process of calculating feedpoint impedance based on antenna length and frequency, referencing professional literature from Professor R.W.P. King at Harvard University. The analysis also considers the characteristic impedance (Z(O)) of the open-wire line, identifying a broad peak of adequate values between 275 and 400 Ohms. Specific design parameters for the improved ZS6BKW are presented, including a shorter flat-top and a longer matching section compared to the original G5RV, with a velocity factor of 0.85 for the 300 Ohm tape. The article confirms acceptable matches on 7, 14, 18, 24, and 28 MHz bands when erected horizontally at 13m, and also discusses performance in an inverted-V configuration, noting frequency shifts. The author, Brian Austin ZS6BKW, emphasizes the antenna's suitability for modern 50 Ohm coaxial cable without a balun.

The 2.1 kHz wide European LF allocation between 135.7 and 137.8 kHz is detailed in this observed band plan, offering guidance for activity within this narrow segment. It specifically addresses the challenge of locating weak signals, such as those from Slow-CW stations, which can have bandwidths of only a few Hertz. The resource emphasizes the utility of precise frequency knowledge when operating with narrow DSP filters, like a 30 Hz filter for CW, to differentiate multiple stations within a very small band segment. The plan, though not officially recognized, provides practical orientation for operators, particularly those new to the _LF band_. It references a similar plan published by the _RSGB_ in the January 2000 issue of _RADCOM_, suggesting a community-driven approach to band organization. The content highlights the importance of spectral awareness, noting that multiple stations can occupy minimal bandwidth, a concept illustrated by spectrographic analysis.
