This resource presents the _FCC_ Online Table of Frequency Allocations, codified under 47 C.F.R. § 2.106. The document details frequency assignments across the electromagnetic spectrum, from 0 kHz to beyond 2170 MHz, specifying allocations for various radio services including amateur, maritime mobile, aeronautical radionavigation, and broadcasting. The table is structured with columns for International Table (ITU Radio Regulations Article 5, Section IV, 2019 Edition), United States Table (Federal and Non-Federal), and corresponding _FCC_ Rule Part(s). Specific frequency ranges, such as **135.7-137.8 kHz** and **472-479 kHz**, are identified with their primary and secondary allocations, including Amateur Radio (Part 97) and Maritime Mobile (Part 80). The methodology involves direct publication of regulatory data, reflecting amendments adopted by the _FCC_ that may not yet be codified in the Code of Federal Regulations. Each entry provides the allocated service (e.g., METEOROLOGICAL AIDS, RADIONAVIGATION), relevant footnotes (e.g., 5.53, US18), and the applicable _FCC_ Rule Part. For example, the 1800-2000 kHz range is allocated to AMATEUR radio under Part 97, alongside MOBILE services. Contact information for the Office of Engineering and Technology Policy and Rules Division is provided for inquiries regarding the data. Presents a practical design for a **crossed-dipole turnstile antenna** specifically engineered for 2-meter Amateur Radio Direction Finding (ARDF) events. The author, WB6RDV, details a robust, omnidirectional, horizontally-polarized antenna, addressing the international ARDF rules requiring such characteristics at a height of two to three meters above ground. This contrasts with the vertical polarization often used in Southern California, highlighting the design's adherence to specific event requirements. The electrical design employs a classic crossed-dipole with a 75-ohm phasing section, resulting in a slight impedance mismatch and an SWR of approximately 1.3:1 with a 50-ohm feedline. Construction utilizes readily available and inexpensive PVC plumbing components and 1/8-inch bronze welding rod for elements. The guide provides step-by-step instructions for mechanical assembly, including drilling element holes at precise 90-degree spacing and preparing the RG-179 matching section. WB6RDV shares insights from his own build experience, discussing the use of plated brass versus aluminum spacers for element attachment and the effectiveness of crimping as an alternative to soldering. The document also covers final assembly, including the integration of ferrite beads as a choke balun and options for weatherproofing and alternative mounting configurations, emphasizing the adaptability of the design for other VHF bands through scaling.

Operating within the amateur radio HF spectrum requires adherence to established band plans and considerate practices. This guide from the ARRL outlines commonly accepted frequency ranges for specific modes and activities, spanning from 1.800 MHz to 29.680 MHz. The document emphasizes that these are not regulatory mandates but rather widely recognized conventions, acknowledging that high-activity periods like DXpeditions or contests may lead to temporary deviations. It explicitly references Section 97.101(b) of the FCC Rules, asserting that no station holds exclusive rights to any frequency. The guide also lists frequencies for IBP/NCDXF beacons and automatically controlled data stations. Practical advice is provided regarding frequency selection, stressing the importance of checking for existing use before transmitting. It also mentions ARRL band plans for frequencies above 28.300 MHz, directing operators to additional resources.

This resource examines the appropriate use of /M (mobile) and /P (portable) suffixes in amateur radio callsigns, specifically within the context of the UK Amateur Radio Licence. It addresses common ambiguities and challenges in determining operational status, such as operating from a summit or while walking. The discussion references the licence version in force before February 21, 2024, noting that while current regulations recommend but do not specify suffix use, the prior definitions remain relevant for understanding common practice. The content dissects key sections of the licence, including "Notes to the licence" (d)(i-iii) which outlines /A, /P, and /M usage based on location, and "Temporary Location" (jj) which defines /P operations. It also clarifies "Mobile" (17(1)(x)) as operating in or on a vehicle, on a pedestrian, or on a vessel on inland waters. The author provides examples and recommendations for choosing between /M and /P when both might apply, such as when operating from a parked car with a deployed mast or using a handheld on a summit. Historical notes from M1MAJ, G8ADD, and G6MZX are included, tracing the evolution of suffix rules from pre-BR68 days to the 1977 licence version. These historical perspectives highlight how past regulations have influenced current interpretations and persistent myths regarding /M usage. The resource emphasizes making an informed choice based on the licence and communicating the station's operational circumstances clearly.

Understanding the operational impact of Broadband over Power Line (BPL) on amateur radio communications is crucial for any radio amateur, especially given the potential for significant radio frequency interference (RFI). This ARRL tutorial delves into the technical aspects of BPL, explaining how the technology operates by transmitting data over existing electrical power lines, which can inadvertently radiate broadband noise across various amateur bands. My own field experience, particularly on the lower HF bands, has often involved tracking down noise sources that exhibit characteristics consistent with BPL emissions, making this a pertinent topic for maintaining clear receive conditions. The resource further details the specific FCC rules and regulations implemented to restrict BPL deployment. These regulations aim to protect licensed radio services, including amateur radio, from harmful interference. It outlines the technical standards and operational limitations imposed on BPL systems to minimize their impact on the electromagnetic spectrum, a critical aspect for contesters and DXers alike. For those engaged in RFI mitigation, the tutorial provides a foundational understanding of the regulatory framework that can be leveraged when addressing BPL-related interference issues. It serves as a valuable reference for hams seeking to comprehend the technical challenges and regulatory solutions surrounding this pervasive noise source.
