MRP40, a successor to the well-regarded MRP37, offers robust Morse code decoding capabilities by processing analog audio signals via a sound card and displaying the decoded text on a computer monitor. My own field tests with similar sound card decoders confirm that the quality of the audio input and proper signal conditioning are paramount for achieving reliable decoding, especially with _weak signals_. The program also facilitates CW transmission, converting keyboard input into Morse code to key a transceiver, a feature I've found useful for practicing sending or for quick contest exchanges. Beyond its core CW functions, MRP40 incorporates a convenient mini-logbook, which automatically checks for prior contacts and allows for quick logging by double-clicking callsigns in the receive window. This integration streamlines the logging process, a significant advantage during busy operating sessions where every second counts. The software also generates Morse tones using the sound card, a handy utility for testing tone sequences or for basic code practice. Additionally, the suite includes a DTMF decoder and generator, which can be used for decoding telephone dial tones or data transmissions over amateur radio frequencies. It also features MF-TeleType, a sound card-based audio data modem for transmitting text via radio, utilizing a principle similar to DTMF for encoding and decoding, offering a simple method for digital text communication.

Over 45 years of amateur radio experience inform the homebrew projects detailed on this personal website, with a particular focus on microwave frequencies. The site showcases a 24 GHz transverter and a more recent 47 GHz transverter, demonstrating practical construction techniques for extreme high-frequency operation. These projects often involve custom circuit design and careful component selection to achieve stable performance at millimeter-wave bands. Key projects include a _harmonic converter_ for frequency measurement and a tracking spectrum analyzer, essential tools for microwave experimenters. The site also documents a CW sidetone generator and a TX/RX sequencer, illustrating fundamental building blocks for radio equipment. Details on a digital frequency meter and an S-meter/dBm meter provide insights into test equipment construction. Specific achievements, such as a **24 GHz** tropo QSO with DK3SE in 2021, highlight the operational success of these homebrewed systems. The content reflects a long-standing dedication to self-sufficiency in amateur radio, providing practical examples for those interested in building their own gear.

Generating Morse code audio files from text input is the primary function of _MorseGen v1.2_, a utility designed for amateur radio operators. The software allows users to specify the tone frequency and words-per-minute (WPM) speed for the generated CW. A key feature is its ability to create a WAVE audio file containing the Morse code, which can then be used in various applications. The program also supports repeating the generated CW sequence at user-defined intervals, making it particularly useful for creating station identification signals or beacons. The practical application of this tool extends to automated station identification, especially for repeaters or digital mode gateways that require a CW ident. By producing a standard _WAVE file_, the output is compatible with most audio playback systems and software. This functionality provides a straightforward method for integrating custom Morse code messages into existing amateur radio setups, eliminating the need for external hardware keyers for simple identification tasks. The adjustable parameters offer flexibility to match specific operational requirements or personal preferences for CW characteristics.

If your local repeater has got you singing the PL tone blues, then read on. For less than $10, an inexpensive PL tone generator can be constructed that will bring new life into that old non-PL rig.

This app will give you a 16 tone DTMF keypad and the ability to generate custom DTMF sequences, and set the duration and tone to silence ratio. Includes the characters 1234567890*# and the menu tones ABCD. You may enter a custom sequence via the keypad, soft keyboard, or speech if your device already has speech-to-text capability. This is basically a touch tone telephone keypad, which may be of interest to amateur ham radio repeater operators

The m0xpd keyer project utilizes a PIC16F628A microcontroller, offering Iambic A and B modes, adjustable speed from 5 to 40 WPM, and variable weight control. It incorporates a sidetone generator with adjustable frequency and volume, along with a PTT output for transceiver control. The design includes a 16-pin DIL IC socket for the PIC, a 3.5mm stereo jack for the paddle, and a 3.5mm mono jack for the PTT output. Powering the keyer requires a 9V DC supply, which is regulated down to 5V for the PIC. The circuit board layout is designed for through-hole components, facilitating home construction. A detailed schematic and a parts list are provided, guiding builders through the assembly process. The project also discusses the firmware programming for the PIC16F628A, essential for the keyer's functionality. Construction details cover component placement and wiring, ensuring proper operation. The keyer's compact size makes it suitable for portable or shack use, providing a reliable CW interface.

A simple 2-tone-generator for testing the linearity of SSB transmitters. This device is as simple as useful. With 2 transistors and an oscilloscope, it is fairly easy to test the linearity of your SSB transmitter. The 2-tone-method is a standardized test method that can be used to determine the maximum output and the amplification characteristics of a sideband transmitter.

A two tone generator is an essential test gear made with just four transistors that helps you evaluate your amplifiers, mixers, receivers for distortion. Distortion makes all the difference between a pleasant receiver and a horrible sounding one, between a clean transmitter and bad, splattering one on air.
