Operating Modes : Digital Voice

• FreeDV - Digital Voice for HF bands - FreeDV uses an audio codec as a software based modem to decode and encode the voice and text data from your computer. The data is encoded and then is transmitted over the HF radio using AF signals that can then in turn be decoded by the receiving station.

• JMSK - JMSK is a software modem that implements a good coherent MSK demodulator that has performance comparable to BPSK. Signals are demodulated from the soundcard. Modulated signals can be routed through the soundcard or to an external device such as a DDS module for direct RF modulation. The advantage of MSK compared to PSK is that non linear amplifiers can be used and has a faster roll off. It is an open source cross-platform program written in C++ Qt.

• FreeDV plus Video - FreeDV plus Video adds simultaneous digital voice (FreeDV) to ZL2AFP's OFDM TV (see OFDM TV page listed under Software/SSTV and FreeDV page listed under Software/Digital Voice). An older version of OFDM TV is used, modified for compatibility with FreeDV. The video is 1 frame/sec, 36-lines, with full color. Total bandwidth is 3.5 kHz.

• RX-SSTV  ^updated - A free windows SSTV receiving program specially designed for SWLers. This sstv decoder does not support SSTV TX. Automatic saving of images, based on MMSTV enigne, support multiple sound cards and advanced quality settings. This software is just capable to decode SSTV a good choice if you need to receive slow scan TV.
