The KD1JV "Melt Solder" Digital QRP SWR/Power Meter operates across the 160m to 6m bands, featuring 9.9-watt and 990-milliwatt power scales, a peak hold mode for SSB, and a VSWR scale from 1:1 to 9.9:1. It utilizes a _Stockton directional coupler_ wound on a single binocular core and an _Atmel AVR ATtiny26L_ microcontroller for processing. The design incorporates _W7EL diode compensation_ in a non-inverting amplifier feedback loop to address diode voltage drop and non-linear behavior at low power levels, with software corrections applied for improved accuracy, particularly at QRP power levels up to 5 watts. Construction details include parts placement, transformer winding instructions for #26 magnet wire, and calibration procedures using a 1.5V alkaline battery or an oscilloscope with a 50-ohm dummy load. Packaging options are discussed for fitting the board into an Altoids tin or a deeper Whitman’s Sampler tin, with considerations for battery life extension by adding a third or fourth battery. Accuracy tests performed at 7 MHz compare readings against a True RMS power meter based on an _Analog Devices AD8361_ chip, showing typical deviations of 0-5% across various power levels.

The Michigan Radio Amateur Youth Network (MRAYN) aims to centralize resources for young operators across Michigan, fostering engagement in amateur radio. This initiative brings together various youth-related clubs and activities, providing a dedicated platform for information exchange and participation. The network supports educational efforts and promotes the hobby among younger generations, ensuring continuity and growth within the amateur radio community. Corey Bulock, KD8BOQ, is listed as a key contact for MRAYN, indicating active leadership in coordinating these youth-centric endeavors. The network's focus includes organizing events and sharing relevant content to keep young hams informed and active. By consolidating information, MRAYN simplifies access to opportunities for youth interested in two-way radio communication, from basic licensing to advanced operating techniques.

Amateur Packet Reporting System (APRS) operations often require compact, reliable solutions for transmitting position data, particularly for mobile or portable stations. This resource details the construction of the _Tiny Track-I_, a transmit-only APRS tracker designed for straightforward integration with a VHF radio and a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver. It enables hams to broadcast their location without the complexity of a full-duplex TNC. The project outlines the printed circuit board (PCB) layout and schematic, based on an original design by N6BG, with a personal PCB drawing by SV1BSX. It includes specific component placement and notes an additional 10uF/10V capacitor (C5) for improved IC voltage decoupling, a modification not present in the original N6BG diagram. The unit connects to a computer or GPS via a DB9 female connector. This tracker is ideal for basic position reporting, offering a simple and effective way to participate in APRS networks. Its small footprint makes it suitable for vehicle installations or field deployments where space is limited, providing a **reliable 9600 baud** data stream for location updates.

A tiny board, which allows a smartphone or similiar device to connect to the Baofeng UV5R radio via a TRRS audio connector. It allows for connecting the radio to a software TNC app such as APRSDroid or PocketPacket. Solder on the components, solder on the cables, then provide some stress relief, (I use solid-core wire and heat shrink tubing), and you can use your UV5R with your smartphone for APRS on the cheap.

The article explains how to adapt the YAESU FT817 transceiver so that it can be used to control Kuhne electronic transverters by transmitting at +12V via the coaxial wire. Different FT817 versions imply that some of the modification proposals that have been made so far don't apply to everyone. This tutorial provides a workaround that works with all FT817 models. It makes use of the external ACC socket, connecting an interior tiny circuit board to two thin wires. Follow ON7WP's instructions for using the rear antenna socket.

The DIY Power Meter project utilizes the _INA226_ high-side power monitoring chip, paired with an ATtiny85 microcontroller, to measure voltage, current, and power, displaying the results on a 128x32 OLED screen. The INA226 communicates via an I2C interface and is programmed with a calibration factor based on the shunt resistance and current register LSB. The project is designed to handle a maximum current of 500mA using a 0.16ohm shunt resistor, which can be adjusted to a 0.2ohm resistor, reducing the full-scale current range to 409mA with a resolution of **12.5uA**. The shunt resistor dissipates only 33mW at maximum current, making 1/4 watt resistors suitable for the setup. The PowerMeter.ino sketch configures the shunt resistance and maximum design current, automatically calculating the calibration factor. The project can be prototyped on a breadboard using an Arduino Uno, employing the Wire library for INA226 and OLED communication, and the u8g2lib library for the OLED display. For the ATtiny85 version, the Adafruit-TinyWireM and Tiny4kOLED libraries are used. The power meter is independently powered by a 3V CR2032 cell, with power switching options including manual switches or DC switched jacks. The low-side n-channel MOSFET switch configuration is tested but introduces voltage drop issues, making manual switching a more reliable option until a suitable DC switched jack is found.
