M1PAF's 20 Meter Vertical Moxon antenna design, based on Pete Mills' EZNEC model, utilizes a push-up GRP mast and Tufnol plate for mounting cross arms, minimizing metallic elements within the beam. Hydraulic pipe clamps, also plastic, secure the tube clamps, with only two bolts and a plate being metallic. Dog bone insulators with Kevlar line and snap links facilitate quick wire element attachment, ensuring tension in all dimensions. The antenna's support structure includes Tufnol guying rings for Kevlar guys, providing stability against high winds. The cross arms are constructed from three 1-meter sections, allowing for convenient packing. This portable setup was successfully deployed adjacent to the ocean, enabling over 4500 QSOs in six days with 100W, achieving easy contacts into Japan and Asia. The design emphasizes ease of erection by a single operator and robust performance in challenging environments. Components for the cross arms were sourced from Spiderbeam. Further information is available via M1PAF's QRZ.com details.

Demonstrates the construction and on-air performance of the _NB6Zep_ antenna, a modified 20-meter Extended Double Zepp design optimized for multi-band operation from 40 through 10 meters. The resource covers basic design principles, including dimensions of 66 feet horizontal and 5 feet vertical elements, and specifies open ladder line or TV twin lead for the transmission line. It details material selection for low-cost wire antenna construction, such as 18 AWG wire for the legs and ceramic or plastic insulators, along with practical tips for soldering connections and insulating against moisture. The author, NB6Z, shares insights from extensive _EZNEC_ modeling to optimize the antenna's total length for a 40-meter half-wave dipole footprint and feed line length for direct tuner connection. The article presents field results, including successful _PSK31_ contacts from Oregon to the East Coast on 40 and 30 meters with 50 watts, even at a low height of 6 feet. It provides detailed performance characteristics for each band, noting the _NB6Zep_'s highest gain (over 3 dB) and sharp, medium-angle lobes on 20 meters, which yielded strong DX reports to locations like Korea, Japan, and Argentina. For 17 and 15 meters, it describes a butterfly-like pattern with broad lobes, while 12 and 10 meters exhibit narrow, directional lobes in an "X" configuration. The author also shares personal experiences operating successfully for over a decade in an antenna-restricted environment using the NB6Zep and other stealth wire antennas.

JJ0DRC's HF multi-band delta loop antenna project, initially conceived during the waning peak of Cycle 23, addresses the common challenge of achieving effective DX operation from a small residential lot in Japan. Dissatisfied with a ground plane antenna's performance in SSB pile-ups, the author sought a beam-like solution without a tower, drawing inspiration from a JJ1VKL article in CQ Ham Radio Sep. 2000. The antenna, constructed in October 2000, employs two 7.2-meter fishing rods (37% carbon fiber, reinforced with cyano-acrylate glue and aluminum tape) and 1mm enameled wire, fed by an Icom AH-4 external antenna tuner. While the exact beam pattern remains unmeasured, JJ0DRC observed a significantly higher callback rate compared to dipole antennas, particularly on higher bands. The system's circumference length of 15-20m is crucial for maintaining a good beam pattern across HF bands, though performance on lower bands like 80m, 40m, and 30m becomes less directional as the length deviates from a full wavelength. Ongoing maintenance addressed degradation issues, including aluminum tape cracking and wire breakage at connection points due to strong winds (often exceeding 10-15m/s in winter). The author reinforced rod connections with IRECTOR PIPE SYSTEM components and INSU-ROCK ties, and improved wire attachment methods using Cremona rope and epoxy bond to enhance durability.

Details the construction of a **17-meter Moxon Rectangle** antenna, specifically engineered for mounting on a mast beneath an existing beam. The design incorporates insulated wire calculations (0.95804 x generator length) to compensate for velocity factor differences, utilizing readily available materials such as crappie poles for elements, PVC for the boom and mast, and a Budwig HQ-1 dipole connector for the 50 Ohm coax feed. The project outlines a step-by-step assembly process, including mast construction from PVC T-connectors and pipe, element fabrication from crappie poles, and securing elements to prevent droop. Initial testing demonstrated an SWR of 1.3:1 on 17 meters, achieving a 5-8 signal report into Texas with 100 watts. Subsequent reinforcement and elevation of the antenna resulted in a 15 over 9 report from Florida. Comparative testing against an 88-foot center-fed Zepp antenna indicated superior performance, with the Moxon consistently outperforming the Zepp and receiving signals the Zepp could not. A notable DX contact with JA8NFV in Hokkaido, Japan, yielded a 5-9+ signal report both ways using 100 watts.

A copper pipe Hentenna for 144 MHz. The Hentenna, a compact, high-gain loop antenna developed in Japan in the 1970s, offers approximately 5.1 dBd gain, comparable to a three-element Yagi. Adapted for 2 meters, it is crafted from copper pipe for simplicity, affordability, and broadband performance. Requiring no feed-point tuning, its construction involves soldering standard copper fittings. Installation demands non-conductive materials to minimize signal disruption. Versatile for vertical or horizontal polarization, it is ideal for FM, repeater, SSB, or CW applications. This design emphasizes practicality and performance for amateur radio enthusiasts

Analyzing a decade of contest operations and QSLing from March 1993 to March 2003, K5ZD presents data on QSO totals by band and mode, QSL error rates, and DXCC progress. The article details the author's methodology of only answering incoming QSLs, which allowed for a study of call copying error rates, found to be between 0.8% and 1.7%. These error rates correlate with typical contest log checking reports (UBN/LCR). The data also tracks the percentage of QSOs confirmed by QSL cards annually, averaging 12.1% over the ten-year period, with a steady rate of 14-15% in earlier years. Specific statistics include a total of 215,653 QSOs logged, with 26,184 QSLs received. The article identifies the top 33 countries for incoming QSLs, accounting for over 87% of the total, with Japan, Germany, Spain, and Belgium being prominent. It also touches upon the potential of ARRL's Logbook of the World (LoTW) for instant confirmations, while noting potential error rate implications. The author's station, initially a barefoot setup with a Hygain multi-band vertical, evolved into a fully operational contest station by October 1993, utilizing DX4WIN for logging.
