This resource presents the _FCC_ Online Table of Frequency Allocations, codified under 47 C.F.R. § 2.106. The document details frequency assignments across the electromagnetic spectrum, from 0 kHz to beyond 2170 MHz, specifying allocations for various radio services including amateur, maritime mobile, aeronautical radionavigation, and broadcasting. The table is structured with columns for International Table (ITU Radio Regulations Article 5, Section IV, 2019 Edition), United States Table (Federal and Non-Federal), and corresponding _FCC_ Rule Part(s). Specific frequency ranges, such as **135.7-137.8 kHz** and **472-479 kHz**, are identified with their primary and secondary allocations, including Amateur Radio (Part 97) and Maritime Mobile (Part 80). The methodology involves direct publication of regulatory data, reflecting amendments adopted by the _FCC_ that may not yet be codified in the Code of Federal Regulations. Each entry provides the allocated service (e.g., METEOROLOGICAL AIDS, RADIONAVIGATION), relevant footnotes (e.g., 5.53, US18), and the applicable _FCC_ Rule Part. For example, the 1800-2000 kHz range is allocated to AMATEUR radio under Part 97, alongside MOBILE services. Contact information for the Office of Engineering and Technology Policy and Rules Division is provided for inquiries regarding the data. The **DF9CY Three-Element Antenna for 28 MHz** details the modification of a commercial PAN International CB antenna to optimize its performance for the 10-meter amateur radio band. This resource provides specific design parameters, including a design frequency of 28.300 MHz, a usable bandwidth of 600 kHz, and a return loss better than 20 dB centered at 28.270 MHz. It also specifies a gain exceeding 7.5 dBi and a front/back ratio greater than 20 dB. The feeding mechanism utilizes a **gamma match**, with setup instructions provided for its positioning. Modifications involved shortening each element's end by 40 mm, a straightforward process due to existing screw holes. The author also recommends replacing the original screws with V2A stainless steel hardware to prevent oxidation and upgrading the SO239 connector to an N-connector for improved reliability. EZNEC simulation files are available, showing azimuth and elevation diagrams with good front-to-back ratio and around 10 dB vertical attenuation. The antenna has been in service since October 1998, demonstrating good performance with 90 watts and even 750 watts, facilitating contacts with all continents from a modest 9-meter height.

Over 16.7 million callsigns are indexed within the HamCall World-Wide Callsign Database, a long-standing resource for amateur radio operators. Presents a practical design for a **crossed-dipole turnstile antenna** specifically engineered for 2-meter Amateur Radio Direction Finding (ARDF) events. The author, WB6RDV, details a robust, omnidirectional, horizontally-polarized antenna, addressing the international ARDF rules requiring such characteristics at a height of two to three meters above ground. This contrasts with the vertical polarization often used in Southern California, highlighting the design's adherence to specific event requirements. The electrical design employs a classic crossed-dipole with a 75-ohm phasing section, resulting in a slight impedance mismatch and an SWR of approximately 1.3:1 with a 50-ohm feedline. Construction utilizes readily available and inexpensive PVC plumbing components and 1/8-inch bronze welding rod for elements. The guide provides step-by-step instructions for mechanical assembly, including drilling element holes at precise 90-degree spacing and preparing the RG-179 matching section. WB6RDV shares insights from his own build experience, discussing the use of plated brass versus aluminum spacers for element attachment and the effectiveness of crimping as an alternative to soldering. The document also covers final assembly, including the integration of ferrite beads as a choke balun and options for weatherproofing and alternative mounting configurations, emphasizing the adaptability of the design for other VHF bands through scaling.

The NCDXF/IARU International Beacon Project schedule provides precise transmission start times for 18 beacons operating on 14.100 MHz, 18.110 MHz, 21.150 MHz, 24.930 MHz, and 28.200 MHz. Each beacon transmits every three minutes, cycling through its callsign at 22 WPM followed by four one-second dashes. The initial callsign and first dash are sent at 100 watts, with subsequent dashes at 10 watts, 1 watt, and 100 milliwatts, enabling **propagation analysis** across varying signal strengths. The schedule lists the minute and second within each hour for the first transmission of each beacon on its respective frequencies. This resource allows **DXers** and **contesters** to accurately predict beacon transmissions for real-time propagation assessment. For example, 4U1UN transmits first at 00:00 on 14.100 MHz, followed by VE8AT at 00:10, and W6WX at 00:20, continuing the sequence. The page also notes recent hardware upgrades, such as the installation of IBP 2.0 controllers with Icom 7200 radios at some sites, and provides status updates for beacons experiencing hardware failures or those not recently heard, aiding in troubleshooting and managing expectations for monitoring.

Selecting an appropriate antenna system for shortwave broadcasting involves evaluating various types based on performance, cost, and operational parameters. This resource details the critical specifications for broadcast antennas, including average and peak power ratings, directivity, takeoff angle (TOA), horizontal beamwidth, and gain, emphasizing that a 100-kW transmitter requires an antenna rated for 150 kW average and 400 kW peak. It clarifies that low TOA signals travel thousands of kilometers, while high TOA is for local coverage, and nearly all modern shortwave broadcast antennas are horizontally polarized. The article explores specific antenna types, such as Log-Periodic Antennas (LPAs), which offer wide frequency ranges (e.g., 2-30 MHz) and directional patterns with 11 dBi gain, costing from $20K to over $100K for multi-curtain versions. Dipole arrays, also known as curtain antennas, are prevalent in international broadcasting, featuring steerable beams (±15° and ±30°) and mode-switching capabilities to alter TOA, with high/low pairs costing over $1 million. Fan dipoles are noted for omnidirectional patterns, smaller size, and lower cost for low-power applications, while rhombics, though simple, require resistive termination and incur several dB of I2R losses. Balun considerations are crucial, as most communications baluns are not rated for the higher average and peak powers of AM broadcast transmitters. Modern shortwave antennas utilize durable materials like Alumoweld wire rope for radiators and support elements, avoiding copper, fiberglass, or materials prone to stretching or deterioration. Feeder systems for high-power stations often require tapered-line baluns to convert 50-ohm unbalanced power to 300-ohm balanced for connection to the antenna.
