The HotPaw Morse Code Decoder application for macOS processes audio input to transcribe Morse code characters into text. It presents both an audio spectrum graph and a tone amplitude graph, which aid in configuring a narrow band audio filter. Operators can set the audio filter for tone frequencies between 400 and 1600 Hz, optimizing reception for various CW signals. The software offers user-configurable settings, including WPM dot/dash speed detection, a noise threshold level, and the option to use Farnsworth timing for inter-character spacing. The Morse code WPM detection automatically adapts from approximately 8 to 40 WPM, with a lock feature for the estimated speed. A High Speed WPM Mode is available for code speeds ranging from 40 to 80 WPM, catering to faster CW operators. The application's decoding performance is influenced by signal level, signal-to-noise ratio, frequency and WPM stability, keying quality, and proper configuration, with an initial learning phase required for WPM estimation to stabilize. An external microphone or line-in may be necessary for optimal performance on some MacBook models to mitigate fan noise or room reverberations. Version 1.4.4, updated on November 11, 2021, includes compatibility improvements for newer macOS releases. The developer, Ronald Nicholson of HotPaw Productions, does not collect any user data from the application.

The m0xpd keyer project utilizes a PIC16F628A microcontroller, offering Iambic A and B modes, adjustable speed from 5 to 40 WPM, and variable weight control. It incorporates a sidetone generator with adjustable frequency and volume, along with a PTT output for transceiver control. The design includes a 16-pin DIL IC socket for the PIC, a 3.5mm stereo jack for the paddle, and a 3.5mm mono jack for the PTT output. Powering the keyer requires a 9V DC supply, which is regulated down to 5V for the PIC. The circuit board layout is designed for through-hole components, facilitating home construction. A detailed schematic and a parts list are provided, guiding builders through the assembly process. The project also discusses the firmware programming for the PIC16F628A, essential for the keyer's functionality. Construction details cover component placement and wiring, ensuring proper operation. The keyer's compact size makes it suitable for portable or shack use, providing a reliable CW interface.

How to connect a mose key to a pc using the standard RS232 serial ports by F8EHO

Two cheap CMOS ICs and a few transistors was all that was required to rebuild an elderly TTL automatic morse keyer into a low current lightweight battery powered iambic morse keyer.

Marshall G. Emm, N1FN, meticulously examines iambic keying, dissecting its historical introduction in the late 1950s with transistorized electronic keyers and its purported advantages. The resource defines keying systems, electronic keyers, and various paddle types, including single-lever and dual-lever paddles, clarifying the distinction between iambic keyers and the iambic sending technique itself. It details the two main types of squeeze keying: true squeeze for alternating dot-dash strings and character insertion for specific elements within a character. N1FN critically evaluates the actual efficiency gains of iambic keying, referencing Chuck Adams, K7QO's, keystroke analysis. While a straight key to bug transition yields a 34.1% reduction and a bug to non-iambic keyer offers 16.1%, iambic keying provides only an 11% theoretical improvement. However, considering typical QSO text and Morse code's inherent optimization for common letters, the practical efficiency gain is estimated at a modest 4-6%. The article also highlights how iambic keying's reliance on precise timing gates can impose a speed limit, making it less effective above 40 WPM, where many operators revert to non-iambic methods or single-lever paddles.

KComm, a logging and communication program, was specifically engineered for Elecraft K2, K3, and KX3 transceivers, leveraging the Lazarus cross-platform development tool. It operates natively on Windows XP and can be compiled for Linux, with potential for macOS, prioritizing low resource usage for casual DXers and contest participants. The software integrates with external applications like Fldigi for diverse digital modes and CW Skimmer for advanced Morse decoding, enhancing its functionality beyond basic logging. The design philosophy of KComm emphasizes utilizing the physical radio controls for operational adjustments, rather than replacing the transceiver's front panel. It facilitates keyboard CW operation via the Elecraft serial protocol and capitalizes on the K3 and KX3's built-in decoders for RTTY and PSK31. Additionally, KComm supports PSK31, PSK63, and PSK125 through the AE4JY PSK Core DLL on Windows and integrates with PSKReporter.info for spotting. While not a dedicated contest logging or award tracking program, KComm supports ADIF and Cabrillo export for casual use, allowing logs to be imported into other software. The author, G4ILO, ceased all software development, providing KComm "as is" without further support or updates; however, the source code is available under the GNU GPL for community continuation.

The _Touch CPO_ circuit offers a unique method for Morse Code practice, eliminating the need for a physical key. It leverages the versatile IC555 timer, configured as an astable multivibrator, to generate an audio tone. Users can adjust the tone's frequency by manipulating a 100 K variable resistor connected between pins 7 and 6 of the IC555, providing flexibility in the practice experience. Volume control is achieved via a 10 K variable resistor, while a 1 K Ohms preset at pin 4 of the IC555 allows for fine-tuning the touch plate's sensitivity. The design connects the touch plate to the base of a BC147B transistor, a configuration noted for its flexibility regarding the length of wire between the transistor and the touch plate. The author's prototype successfully used a 9 cm wire with a 3 x 6 cm aluminum plate. This project also suggests an alternative application as a touch-operated doorbell, demonstrating the circuit's adaptability. The design emphasizes simplicity and ease of construction, making it accessible for hams interested in DIY electronics.

The site also covers the initial design by Alfred Vail in 1844, Jesse Bunnell's 1881 "Triumph Key," and William O. Coffe's 1904 "Mecograph." This page assists owners in identifying their Vibroplex models and determining their manufacturing dates, providing insights into the company's long history and notable figures like J. E. Albright. It notes that approximately 300,000 Vibroplexes have been produced since 1904, with the Original model still in production after more than 90 years. The resource also touches upon various Vibroplex models, including unusual, scarce, and common types, alongside legal and illegal clones from other manufacturers.
