Nexus is a free and open-source ham radio software application, built in Rust by KD9TAW, designed to integrate multiple station functions into a single program. It supports fifteen operating modes, including FT8, FT4, CW, SSB, FM, RTTY, SSTV, and APRS, with both transmit and receive capabilities across Windows, Linux, and Raspberry Pi platforms. The software provides band activity displays with country, distance, and bearing information, a call roster, a 3-D propagation globe with live spots, and alerts for new DXCC, WAS, WAZ, VUCC, and IOTA entities. It also features a native RF panadapter for Icom CI-V and Flex radios, or a live audio scope for other transceivers. Nexus integrates a comprehensive logbook, computes awards offline without requiring an account, and includes repeater search functionality with curated memory packs. It offers CHIRP CSV round-trip compatibility for approximately 1,000 radio models and is compatible with WSJT-X, JTDX, and MSHV via UDP protocol for seamless integration with existing workflows. The application supports ADIF import/export for log data management and provides accessibility features for operators with hearing or visual impairments, including screen reader compatibility and keyboard-navigable interfaces.

This article documents the author's latest go-box build for outdoor ham radio operations using a Yaesu FT-891 transceiver. The go-box is constructed from a plastic "50-cal ammo case" and contains various components, including the transceiver, LDG Z11 Pro autotuner, DIY Yaesu FH-2 remote control keypad, and an external battery. The author details the design considerations, the mounting of components inside the box, and addresses issues related to ventilation and cable management. The go-box is geared for CW operations and POTA activations, with further modifications planned for a microphone and DATA jack. This project allows for rugged, environmentally protected outdoor radio operations while maintaining portability.

When operating Parks on the Air (POTA) in public spaces, maintaining a low profile can be advantageous, as VA3KOT discovered. This antenna design draws inspiration from several established concepts: Peter Waters G3OJV's _Invisible HF Vertical_, which uses a 13ft vertical wire and ground radials; Greg KJ6ER's _POTA PERformer_ antenna, known for its raised vertical and reduced radial count; and ideas from Jim Heath W6LG and Frank K4FMH regarding telescoping whips on photographer's tripods. The resulting antenna combines a shortened portable design with a raised feedpoint and two raised radial wires, making it suitable for multiple bands. The construction incorporates a 4:1 impedance transformer, similar to a _Rybakov_ antenna, and necessitates an external tuner for optimal performance across the bands. This approach aims to minimize visual impact while still providing effective HF communication capabilities. VA3KOT built and field-tested this antenna, reporting positive results during POTA activations. The article provides practical insights into its design and operational considerations for fellow activators seeking discreet yet efficient portable setups.

A 3.5–24 MHz regenerative receiver for amateur bands was recently constructed, inspired by a 1934 design. The project was both challenging and rewarding, requiring precise tuning and high-quality components. The receiver successfully captured QSOs from across the globe, such as New Zealand communicating with Panama. The simplicity of the design and the satisfaction of building a functional, compact wooden box with handmade resonant circuits were highlights. This project demonstrates a meaningful way to reconnect with the roots of amateur radio.

The collinear J-Pole, often known as the Super-J, does improve the behavior over a regular J-Pole. there is an advantage when vertically combining 1/2 radiating sections to have a bit of separation between the half-wave end points. Get 0.8 dB more gain out of the trusty Super-J by replacing the traditional phasing stub with a long coil.

A simple superheterodyne receiver (3.5–30 MHz) for amateur radio achieves stable SSB-CW reception using modern BJTs, an AD831 mixer, a 6-pole quartz filter, and Seiler oscillators. Designed with high IF (4.5 MHz), compact AM-FM variable capacitors, and modular resonant circuits, it ensures selectivity, image rejection, and stable tuning. Built in a copper-lined wooden case, it features practical assembly techniques but lacks advanced features like AGC or S-meter. Effective on basic antennas, it achieves global reception.

In the quest for an ideal field portable antenna, the author recounts experiments involving various wire configurations. While a previous candidate, a 41ft random wire, proved effective but lacked stealth, the search led to a surprising rediscovery of a design previously rejected—the Rybakov Antenna. With a focus on simplicity, rapid deployment, and multiband capability, the author explores the versatility of a 26ft Rybakov, avoiding the halfwave trap. The article delves into the antenna's performance and its potential as a discreet, resonant solution for field operations, addressing the challenges encountered during a POTA activation. Additionally, the Unun/Balun design used in conjunction with the Rybakov Antenna is discussed, providing insights into achieving a balanced system.

Hamradio_copilot is an open-source tool designed for DXers and contesters who need real-time situational awareness. It is ideal for operators who want to visualize propagation trends instantly rather than scrolling through raw text streams of cluster spots. Rally acting as a copilot for your station, this tool transforms raw data into actionable intelligence. By visualizing Signal-to-Noise Ratios (SNR) across different bands, it helps operators make quick decisions on which band to prioritize or where to point their antennas, effectively showing not just who is on air, but where the propagation is currently open from your location. This is a fantastic information for avid contesters. The software aggregates data from two primary services: - Reverse Beacon Network (RBN) via Telnet. - PSK Reporter via MQTT feeds. It processes this data to generate a comprehensive HTML report featuring SNR heatmaps and statistical breakdowns by ITU Zone. Users can filter data by specific zones or country codes (ADIF), analyze historic time ranges, and optionally integrate solar weather data. The complete source code is available on GitHub, allowing for community customization. It is written in Python and uses SQLite for data management.
