It also discusses mechanical joint resistance, dissimilar metal oxidation prevention using Vaseline, and a simple method for determining radiation angle with a TL-light tube. The guide includes diagrams for rotor, stator, and end plate construction.

The **Extended Double Zepp** (EDZ) antenna, a simple wire design, is presented as a means to achieve 3-4 dB of gain on 10 meters, with an overall length of just 43 feet. This resource, authored by WB3HUZ, details several gain antennas suitable for the 29 MHz AM segment, all modeled using EZNEC software at 30 feet above ground. Other designs include a compact rectangular loop, offering more gain than the EDZ and a lower take-off angle, and the **Lazy H**, a bidirectional antenna providing 6 dB gain, which is also workable on 20, 17, 15, and 12 meters. The Bisquare, a diamond-shaped open-top loop, is also featured, providing approximately 4 dB gain and requiring only a single support. These designs are primarily fed with ladder line or open-wire line to simplify matching, though a coax feed option for the EDZ is shown for 10-meter-only operation. The Lazy H, for instance, requires about 16 feet of open-wire line for its half-wavelength elements spaced a half-wavelength apart. An enhanced EDZ Lazy H variant is also discussed, achieving an additional 1-2 dB gain by extending element length to 1.28 wavelengths and increasing spacing to 0.64-0.75 wavelengths. The Bisquare, while primarily a 10-meter antenna, can be adapted for 20 meters by closing the top connection.

A self-supporting vertical antenna design for stationary-mobile HF-VHF operation is presented, emphasizing ease of construction with common materials like a fiberglass fishing rod and PVC pipe. The design focuses on creating a set of no-tuner monoband radiators for bands such as **2m**, **6m**, 10m, and 12m, with an overall radiator support length of 3.3m. The construction process details the assembly of the antenna base using a magnetic mount, PL-259 connector, and PVC pipe sections, which then supports the telescopic fishing rod. Radiator extensions are cut to achieve quarter-wave resonance on specific bands, with detailed instructions for 6m (50-51 MHz), 10m (28.5 MHz), and 12m (24.9 MHz). For lower HF bands like 15m, 17m, and 20m, the design incorporates base-loading coils, with specific turn counts provided (e.g., 21 turns for 20m). The project also suggests using an _antenna analyzer_ for precise tuning of extensions and coils, moving beyond theoretical values to achieve optimal performance. The author, _IK1ZYW_, notes that for 80m and 160m, the antenna becomes less efficient as a vertical, suggesting alternative configurations like an inverted-V dipole or asymmetrical inverted-L.

Build your own antenna for the 23cm band ( 1250Mhz - 1280Mc ) using some aluminium and this simple design.

This drawing shows a simple 10 meter wire J-pole antenna designed for 28.4 MHz. It is a vertical, end-fed Zepp-style antenna made from common materials and intended for easy home construction. The main radiating element is a straight length of stranded copper wire, either 14 or 18 gauge, cut to about 16.5 feet. At the top, the wire is supported by an insulator, allowing the antenna to be hoisted vertically. The matching section is made from 450-ohm ladder line, approximately 7 feet 9.5 inches long, and shorted at the bottom. This matching stub transforms the impedance so the antenna can be fed with coaxial cable. The feed point is tapped about 6 inches above the bottom of the stub, with the shield and center conductor connected at the proper points. A choke balun is formed with five turns of RG-58 coax in a 4-inch diameter loop to help reduce unwanted RF on the feed line. The drawing notes that this antenna has about 0 dBd gain, similar to a dipole, but offers an omnidirectional pattern and low-angle radiation when installed high. Its main advantage is practical performance, simple construction, and effective coverage for 10 meter operation.

AM/FM/CW QRP RF Power Amplifier for the HF 10 or 11 meterband (28MHz/27MHz)

A PIC16F876 microprocessor-based digital SWR/WATTmeter project provides automatic operation across the 1.8 to 60 MHz frequency range. This design displays both SWR and P.E.P. power values, incorporating a bar graph on the second LCD line for instantaneous power tracking. The directional coupler utilizes a single-wire coil on a ferrite FT50-43 toroid, balanced with a 60 pF trimmer, and employs 1N5711 Schottky diodes for detection, ensuring linearity and a power range of 5 to 120 W. The software, developed by IW3EGT, compensates for diode voltage drop for precise readings, updating power every two seconds for stable display of modulated carriers, while the bar graph updates ten times per second for near real-time feedback. Calibration involves two phases: adjusting the directional coupler for minimum SWR on a 50-ohm dummy load at 28 MHz, and calibrating the microprocessor system by inputting a calculated power value (Power (Watt) = (Vout + 0.5)^2 / 100) at 14-21 MHz. The project includes PCB layouts for both the directional coupler (two-layer copper board) and the PIC module (single-sided), with specific instructions for component placement and shielding to prevent RF interference. The design allows for modification of power reading capability by varying the number of turns in the coupler coil, catering to different power levels.

This resource details the computer-optimized design of the _ZS6BKW_ multiband dipole, an evolution of the classic _G5RV_ antenna. It begins by referencing the original 1958 RSGB Bulletin article by Louis Varney G5RV, explaining the operational principles of the G5RV's flat-top and open-wire feedline on 20m and 40m, noting its impedance transformation characteristics for valve amplifiers of that era. The article then transitions to the rationale for optimizing the design for contemporary solid-state transceivers requiring a 50 Ohm match. The core of the project involves using computer modeling to determine optimal lengths for the flat-top and matching section, aiming for a VSWR of less than 2:1 on multiple HF bands. It discusses the process of calculating feedpoint impedance based on antenna length and frequency, referencing professional literature from Professor R.W.P. King at Harvard University. The analysis also considers the characteristic impedance (Z(O)) of the open-wire line, identifying a broad peak of adequate values between 275 and 400 Ohms. Specific design parameters for the improved ZS6BKW are presented, including a shorter flat-top and a longer matching section compared to the original G5RV, with a velocity factor of 0.85 for the 300 Ohm tape. The article confirms acceptable matches on 7, 14, 18, 24, and 28 MHz bands when erected horizontally at 13m, and also discusses performance in an inverted-V configuration, noting frequency shifts. The author, Brian Austin ZS6BKW, emphasizes the antenna's suitability for modern 50 Ohm coaxial cable without a balun.

Coil tapping points were adjusted to achieve resonance without an external tuner in Generation 2. The project outlines material costs, totaling approximately $25, and mentions a successful 28 MHz QSO with EA3XA using an ICOM IC-706 mk II at 100 Watts. For 80m operation, an external wire with the maximum coil setting is used, or a 56" extender below the coil for stationary use.

An homebrew crossed Yagi antenna for two meters band based on DK72B design with pictures, detailed description and tricks by Barry Zarucki M0DGQ

Designing **Moxon Rectangle** antennas often involves an urge among builders to find simple "magic formulas" for element lengths. L. B. Cebik, W4RNL, argues against this simplistic approach, emphasizing that antenna dimensions do not scale linearly and are influenced by factors like wire size and height above ground. This resource presents a procedure for developing sensible design equations, starting with uniform-diameter elements and perfectly conductive materials, with adjustments for real-world materials like copper and aluminum. The core of the method involves judicious **NEC modeling** (versions 2, 3, or 4) to create a baseline dataset for regression analysis, ensuring models meet specific performance standards for gain, front-to-back ratio, and feedpoint impedance. The derived equations, presented as a BASIC program, allow for calculating Moxon dimensions (A through E) based on wire diameter in wavelengths and design frequency. W4RNL demonstrates the efficacy of these equations by designing and testing Moxon Rectangles for 7.15 MHz (AWG #12 wire), 28.5 MHz (1" tubing), and 146 MHz (0.125" rod). Modeled performance data, including gain, front-to-back ratio, and feedpoint impedance, are provided for both perfect and real-world materials, showing high efficiency and close adherence to design goals. The article also references a standalone Windows program by AC6LA that automates these calculations and generates EZNEC or NEC models.

The Moxon configuration inherently presents a 50 Ohm load to the transceiver, often eliminating the need for an external matching unit or balun. Performance data for an antenna mounted at approximately 30 feet indicates a gain of 10-11 dBi and a frequency range of 27.300 MHz to 28.300 MHz. The design is noted for its excellent front-to-back rejection, with tested signal drop-offs from S5-S7 to S2 when turned, demonstrating effective suppression of unwanted signals.

G3TPW CobWebb Antenna for the 14, 18, 21, 24 and 28 MHz Bands

A 10 meters band Slim Jim antenna project, made with a 450 Ohm slotted ribbon cable and secured on a 8 m fishing pole, by Steve G0KYA

High gain, good pattern and acceptable bandwidth. These aims can be realized with a radiation-resistance of 25-35Ohms, because the 28-Ohm-feedpoint is very simple to match.

A project of a vertical and wires that generate a multiband antenna for 28 14 10 and 7 Mhz in french

A 20-meter vertical _Moxon_ antenna, designed for portable operation, is detailed with specific dimensions for its driven and reflector elements. The project outlines the construction process, including the use of PVC pipe for the frame and #14 AWG insulated wire for the elements. The antenna's compact size and directional characteristics make it suitable for field day operations or limited space environments, offering a gain of approximately 5.5 dBi and a front-to-back ratio of 20 dB. Testing revealed a 1.2:1 SWR at 14.250 MHz, demonstrating good impedance matching across the target frequency range. The _Moxon rectangle_ design provides a clean radiation pattern with minimal side lobes, which is advantageous for reducing QRM from unwanted directions. This build offers a practical solution for hams seeking a lightweight, easily deployable directional antenna for 20 meters without the complexity of a full-sized Yagi.
