Normal mode helix antennas offer a solution for HF mobile operators facing significant height restrictions, such as those parking in indoor garages with limited overhead clearance. This design, adapted from concepts typically applied to VHF/UHF rubber duck antennas, allows for extremely shortened HF radiators that remain effective for county hunting and general mobile operation. The resource details the construction of a 20-meter helix antenna, approximately 10 inches long, wound with #14 AWG THHN wire on a 1 1/2-inch CPVC form, mounted on a standard 3/8 x 24 antenna stud. Mark Herson, _N2MH_, shares his experience developing these antennas, including initial research from the _RSGB VHF UHF Manual_ and practical winding experiments to establish the relationship between turns and resonant frequency. He provides coil data for various frequencies, emphasizing that these measurements were taken with an _MFJ-259a_ antenna analyzer and are dependent on the vehicle's grounding system. Despite their shortened nature, N2MH confirms the antennas' operational effectiveness, citing contacts with KL1V in Alaska on 20 meters and E-skip contacts on 10 meters. The design prioritizes continuous deployment without removal, making it suitable for operators who frequently navigate height-restricted environments.

Log4OM is a free logging software designed for amateur radio operators who require an integrated environment for station management and QSO logging. It is widely used by DXers due to its strong database capabilities and its integration with common online services. The program uses a structured SQL database and supports large logbooks without noticeable performance degradation. One of its key features is **CAT Control**, which allows direct communication with many transceivers for automatic frequency and mode detection. The **DX Cluster Client** provides real-time spotting with filtering and band/mode tracking, helping operators quickly identify new DX opportunities. Log4OM integrates with several external confirmation systems. Built-in support for **Logbook of The World (LoTW)** and **eQSL** allows automatic upload and download of confirmations. This graphics-intensive program reveals the load on the output of a matching-network, based on measurements of the components in that network. Adjust the network (tuner) for a flat input, measure or look up the network component values and you will immmediately see the R and jX values of the load on the network, presented as both a schematic with the component values and as a Smith Chart normalized to the specified system impedance.

The normal way to make a good balun is to wind a core with a bifilar winding about 8-10 turns, and then connect the coax to one side and the antenna to the other.

Have you been looking for an easy way to measure power or SWR at 1296 MHz? One thing is certain, it is not easy - simply because the normal range of SWR meters that most of us have is not up to 1300 MHz.

Vertical end fed antenna used for portable operations. The antenna will work on 80 with acceptable results, it will work fine on 40m, and it will be a good deal better than a normal 1/4 wave GP on 20, 17, 15 meters.

This antenna just requires about 24m of free space instead of 41m that a normal half wave 80m antenna needs to hang up. The so called loaded dipole uses a coil in every dipole arm to electrically lengthen the mechanical too short dipole arms. Every coil has an inductivity of 120 microHenry.

Txtopia provides a browser-based Morse code translator that converts plain text to International Morse Code and decodes Morse back into text, supporting various Unicode dot and dash representations. The tool automatically detects translation direction, normalizes common input variations like middle dots (·), bullets (•), em dashes, and underscores, and explicitly flags unsupported characters or ambiguous sequences with visible placeholders rather than silently dropping them. It accepts spaces, tabs, newlines, and pipes as letter separators, and slashes or blank lines for word boundaries, recording collapsed separators for user review. Users can adjust playback speed from 5 to 40 WPM and tone frequency from 300 to 1000 Hz for CW practice, with playback adhering to international Morse timing. The application operates entirely client-side, ensuring user input remains in the browser without server transmission. It includes a comprehensive reference for the supported Morse alphabet, numbers, and punctuation, aiding in learning and verification. The tool is suitable for checking game clues, verifying tattoo designs, and transcribing messages for ham radio CW practice.

The recognition of telegraphy masked by noise at 40 and 80 signs/min telegraphy speed was studied in 10 normal-hearing subjects at different sound pressure levels (25-85 dB SPL in steps of 5 dB) as well as at different test frequencies (2000, 1000, 800, 630, 500 and 250 Hz). The ability to recognize the signs varied with varying SPL. Recognition for most of the subjects was best at an SPL close to 70 dB. All subjects improved their recognition as the frequency was lowered to 500 Hz, some even at 250 Hz. These facts should be taken into consideration when training telegraphy operators as well as in the construction of radio receivers to permit listening at low frequencies. Furthermore, the critical ratio was calculated at the different test frequencies.
