Illustrates the fundamental principles of radio repeater operation, detailing how different duplex configurations overcome signal limitations in varied terrains. It begins by contrasting _simplex_ communication, where all units share a single frequency, with more complex systems designed for extended range and specialized applications. The resource systematically presents each mode, from basic base station setups to advanced multi-frequency configurations. The content specifically covers hemi-duplex systems, often used in commercial dispatch, where the base station transmits on one frequency and mobiles on another, without rebroadcast. It then progresses to semi-duplex repeaters, the most common type in amateur radio, which automatically retransmit received signals on a different frequency. The explanation extends to demi-duplex and hemi-demi-duplex systems, which incorporate multiple control links for enhanced operational flexibility and secure communications, as seen in public safety applications. Finally, the resource clarifies full-duplex repeater systems, exemplified by cellular networks, where simultaneous two-way communication is achieved through distinct transmit and receive frequencies for each direction. The visual aids, including **9 distinct figures**, effectively demonstrate the signal paths and frequency assignments for each operational mode, providing a practical understanding of repeater architecture.

adsbScope is a freeware Windows application designed for processing _ADS-B_ (Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast) frames received from a compatible decoder. It identifies aircraft, calculates their real-time positions, and presents flight parameters in both alphanumeric tables and a graphical display. The software interfaces via a virtual COM port, receiving raw frames to provide detailed situational awareness, including a global coordinate grid, continental coastlines, over 4,000 **airport** locations, and major cities. Users can overlay OpenStreetMap tiles and view world state boundaries, with each tracked aircraft rendered with labels showing altitude, speed, heading, squawk code, and flight identifiers. When paired with the adsbPIC-decoder, adsbScope enables advanced hardware control, allowing users to toggle data filters for specific frames like DF17/18/19, adjust analog signal thresholds for reception fine-tuning, and manage system resets or bootloader activation directly from the PC. This functionality provides a customizable toolkit for hobbyist radar listeners, offering a robust alternative to commercial tools for processing aircraft data. The software displays up to **1090 MHz** transponder data and can track aircraft up to 250 nautical miles.

Sharing beverage antennas with this switch boxes is possible. This article describes a 6-position remote antenna switch for Beverage antennas on 3 bands (160m, 80m, 40m). The system uses a control box with a rotary switch and a separate splitting box with bandpass filters for each band.

KaWin is a legacy digital RF data communications program designed to harness the full potential of Kantronics Terminal Node Controllers (TNCs) via their proprietary Host Mode. Serving as a central hub for the digital shack, it gave operators running packet radio or DX clusters a native graphical interface to seamlessly manage RF traffic across up to four simultaneous TNCs. The primary limitation today is extreme software obsolescence. KaWin is a completely unsupported, discontinued product running exclusively on legacy operating systems, peaking at Windows 95. Modern shacks cannot run it natively; it strictly demands antiquated hardware like physical RS-232 serial ports with 16550 UARTs, dedicated IRQ assignments to prevent RX/TX buffer overruns, and specific legacy TNC firmware EPROMs. Despite being a relic, its benefits for the dedicated digital DXer were substantial. By fully exploiting Kantronics Host Mode rather than basic KISS configurations, it maximized on-the-air throughput and station efficiency. For retro-computing hams restoring vintage packet stations, KaWin still provides a robust environment that successfully bridged raw RF data routing with a highly functional, multitasking graphical user interface.

Demonstrates building a basic _VOX circuit_ to add voice-operated transmit functionality to HF transceivers that lack this feature. The design utilizes a _1458 dual op-amp_ (two 741 op-amps in one package) to amplify microphone audio and act as a comparator, driving an NPN switching transistor for PTT control. A capacitor, C2, provides the necessary delay before unkeying the PTT, with a variable resistor, R6, allowing adjustment of the VOX level for specific microphones or voices. This low-cost circuit, detailed with a full parts list, offers a practical solution for hams seeking to enhance their budget HF rigs. The author, N1HFX, provides guidance on initial setup, including advice on microphone gain and the use of headphones to prevent speaker audio from re-keying the transceiver. Modifications for adjusting delay time are also included, suggesting increasing R8 to 10K for more delay or decreasing C2 to 22µF for less.

The IBUC series, for instance, integrates a BUC with an SSPA, enabling operators to install, configure, and monitor units for both commercial and military satellite applications, ensuring reliable, high-performance connectivity worldwide. The company's offerings support various satellite bands, including C, X, Ku, and Ka, providing solutions for diverse operational requirements. Their technology is designed for robust field performance, with products like the _IBUC2_ and _IBUCG_ models demonstrating the integration of advanced diagnostics and control capabilities, which are crucial for maintaining optimal signal integrity in demanding environments. Terrasat's focus on _SSPA_ technology underscores a commitment to power efficiency and compact design.

Constructing a functional spectrum analyzer for the 0-100 MHz range presents a significant challenge for radio amateurs, often requiring specialized components and careful calibration. This project details a homebrew spectrum analyzer design utilizing common integrated circuits like the _SA605D_ FM receiver IC and _MAR-6_ MMIC amplifiers, aiming for a cost-effective solution. The design incorporates a low-pass filter, RF amplification, a voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) for downconversion, and multiple IF stages at 150 MHz and 10.7 MHz, with a resolution bandwidth (RBW) of 15 kHz. Critical components such as the _SBL-1_ mixer and varicap diodes are specified, alongside instructions for winding inductors and tuning filters. The analyzer's performance is discussed in terms of input level limitations, specifically the 1dB-compression point and third-order intercept point, to ensure accurate measurements and prevent component damage. The _SA605D_'s logarithmic Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) output serves as the detector, driving the Y-input of an oscilloscope, while a _TL084_ op-amp generates the sweep signal for the X-input. Potential enhancements include adding a step attenuator, improving front-end filtering, and implementing switchable IF filters for variable RBW, allowing for greater versatility in analyzing RF signals.
