KWRTTY V1.1.3, released on February 4, 2008, is a freeware RTTY reception program designed for Windows operating systems (Win95 and higher, requiring a minimum 133 MHz Pentium processor and 32 MB RAM). Its primary function is to decode and log amateur radio **RTTY** transmissions, including the capability to set up a private RTTY mailbox that records only messages addressed to the user's callsign. The software is specifically optimized for receiving and logging marine weather reports from the DWD (Deutscher Wetterdienst), categorized by sea areas, making it particularly useful for sport boat operators. The duration of logging is limited only by available RAM. For its core functionality, KWRTTY requires the **MMTTY-Engine** by Makoto Mori, JE3HHT, as an interface between the sound card and the program. This engine, also freeware, needs to be copied into the same directory as KWRTTY. The program's design focuses on continuous logging of specific RTTY content, offering a specialized tool for both general amateur radio RTTY monitoring and dedicated weather report reception, distinguishing it from more general-purpose digital mode software.

This resource details the construction of a versatile CW/QRSS beacon, designed around a Microchip _PIC16F84_ microcontroller. The project provides a flexible platform for transmitting either standard CW or very slow QRSS signals, making it suitable for LF, VHF, UHF, and SHF applications. It supports two distinct messages, each configurable for speed (from 0 to **127** WPM for CW, or up to **127** seconds per dot for QRSS) and repetition within a six-phase sequence. The core functionality relies on the PIC's EEPROM, which stores all operational parameters, including message content, transmission speeds, phase configurations, and relay control settings. This design allows for parameter modification directly via programming software like _ICProg_ without altering the main program code. The project includes a detailed schematic, a component list, and an explanation of the EEPROM memory mapping for messages, speeds, phase settings, and inter-phase delays. General-purpose outputs (OUT1, OUT2, OUT3) provide dry relay contacts for external control, enabling functions such as power switching, antenna selection, or frequency changes. A 'TRIGGER' input facilitates controlled starts or continuous free-run operation. Sample EEPROM configurations illustrate how to program specific beacon sequences, including message content and relay states.

Outlines recommended operating procedures for amateur radio repeaters, detailing best practices for general on-air conduct. It emphasizes using simplex when possible, monitoring the frequency before transmitting, and maintaining concise, thoughtful transmissions to avoid monopolizing the repeater. The resource also stresses the importance of legal identification, such as the Canadian requirement at the beginning and end of a contact and every thirty minutes of operation. Furthermore, the article provides specific instructions for **autopatch** operation, including access codes and the necessity of brief calls, while cautioning against misuse for long-distance calls or commercial purposes. It highlights the financial support expected from regular users to maintain repeater infrastructure. Finally, the guide differentiates between permanently linked repeaters, which offer extended coverage, and **code access linked repeaters**, explaining the sequence of identification and code entry required to establish and terminate links for broader communication.

Demonstrates the construction of two distinct wideband RF preamplifiers, detailing their component requirements and performance characteristics. The first design leverages monolithic microwave integrated circuits (MMICs) such as the MAR-6, MAR-8, or PGA103, offering a broad frequency response from DC to 2 GHz with a gain of 22.5 dB at 100 MHz and a noise figure typically below 3 dB. This MMIC-based amplifier incorporates protection against power supply transients and features a 50 Ohm input/output impedance, operating from an 8-20 volt supply with low current drain. The second preamplifier design utilizes a BSX-20 transistor, providing amplification across the 14 MHz to 550 MHz range. This simpler, more economical build achieves an average gain of 12 dB at 145 MHz and a noise figure of approximately 1.1 dB. It operates from a 7-15 volt battery supply with a current draw of 6 mA. Both projects emphasize critical construction techniques, such as maintaining short RF connections, ensuring 50 Ohm impedance paths, and mounting the circuit within a shielded enclosure to optimize performance and minimize noise. The resource also discusses phantom power options for antenna-mounted preamplifiers and precautions for use with transceivers, including output protection diodes and static bleeders.

Accessing current contact information for amateur radio operators is crucial for QSLing, award tracking, and general communication within the Ham Radio community. This online tool provides a specialized callbook service, focusing exclusively on Croatian (9A) amateur radio operators who maintain active membership with the Hrvatski Radioamaterski Savez (HRS). It functions as a centralized database, allowing users to look up specific 9A call signs and retrieve associated information, primarily for verification purposes within the Croatian amateur radio scene. The utility of such a focused callbook lies in its direct relevance to local and regional operating activities, including contests, nets, and emergency communications within Croatia. While not a global callbook like QRZ.com or HamQTH, it serves a vital role for Croatian hams and those seeking to confirm contacts with 9A stations, ensuring data accuracy by linking entries directly to HRS membership status. This targeted approach streamlines the process of verifying Croatian amateur radio licenses and membership details.

Demonstrates the design principles and performance characteristics of **corner reflector antennas**, emphasizing their high gain and directional properties. It covers critical design factors such as the corner angle and the spacing between the radiating dipole and the reflector vertex. The resource explains how reducing the corner angle increases gain but lowers feed impedance, making matching more challenging. Practical angles of 90 degrees or 60 degrees are discussed, with 90 degrees offering easier impedance matching despite slightly lower gain. Details key design considerations, including reflector side length exceeding two wavelengths and reflector width greater than one wavelength for a half-wave radiator. It specifies reflector construction using wire netting, sheet metal, or parallel metal spines spaced less than 0.1 wavelength. The article provides a table with general dimensions for UHF and VHF bands, noting typical impedance values of 50 to 75 ohms and expected SWR of 1.7:1 on the lower band edge. Adjustable radiator-to-vertex spacing is highlighted as crucial for final tuning.

Over 1.5 million US amateur radio call signs are managed by the FCC, and this online service assists operators in finding available vanity call signs. Users can specify desired **call sign suffixes** to narrow down search results, which are drawn directly from the current FCC database. The platform clarifies that some valid call signs, never previously held since online FCC record-keeping began, may not appear in search results; for such cases, a separate "call lookup" function is recommended to verify availability before applying. The service provides crucial guidance on the application process, noting that applications should generally not be filed before the indicated "Available Date" unless the applicant is a former holder or a close family member. It also dispels the common misconception that call signs are granted on a first-come, first-served basis on any given day. Instead, all applications received on a particular day are metaphorically "thrown into a hat," with a winner randomly selected. This mechanism ensures fairness in the assignment of highly sought-after **vanity call signs** across the US amateur radio community.
