The Lampedusa 2013 DXpedition is comprised of an international team from 6 countries. We will be on the air October l 17 thru October 30, 2013 running 4 stations on 160M through 6M (SSB/CW/RTTY).

Unlike older radios, the 706 uses only one crystal oscillator (called the Master Oscillator). Although most Preselectors are designed with an internal T/R relay, theoretically enabling direct insertion between the transceiver and the antenna, there is a problem when running CW, especially when running full QSK. The switching time of the internal relay is too slow to follow full QSK. The best way to avoid this problem altogether is to insert the Preselector directly into the transceiver’s RX antenna line, thus avoiding entirely the need to switch the Preselector in and out.

This transmitter covers the 160, 80, 40 and 20 metre bands and provides both SSB and properly generated CW. The CW side of this transmitter is not compromised and produces excellent CW. On SSB the audio has been tailored to provide a rising response to 3 KHz, with a sharp drop above that frequency. There is RF speech clipping to both provide more "punch" and to limit the peak output.

For my SOTA activities, i recently bought a QRP transceiver QRP SW-3B, which is a three-band QRP CW only for 40/30/20 m. So, i needed an antenna that would allow to use these 3 bands in SOTA portable activity. Already having some experience with the EFHW antenna, i decided to build one for 40/30/20m.
